Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 17th November 2018.
On Wednesday 14th November Rainey Endowed School played Ballymena Academy in a closely contested game the Ballymena Academy team won by 24-22. The Rainey Endowed School team started the game very strongly and found themselves 19-0 ahead coming up to the interval. Three tries from Bryan Davies, David Dripps and Tim Campbell, two of which were converted by Harry Evans, were the result of an all-out attacking display by the Rainey team. The Ballymena Academy team had been out of action for a number of weeks but they reduced their arrears to 19-7 just before the half time break when Adam Lamont crossed for a try which Ross McKay converted.
After the break Paul Gocher touched down for a try, which Ross McKay converted, to take the Ballymena Academy team to within touching distance of the Rainey ES with the score now reading 19-14. However, a Harry Evans penalty increased the Rainey lead to 22-14. Back came the Ballymena Academy team and a try from Alex McKinney, converted by Ross McKay, saw the scoreboard read Rainey Endowed 22 Ballymena Academy 21. With the last play of the game Ross McKay secured a very hard earned 24-22 victory for the Ballymena Academy team with a well-struck drop goal.
Limavady Grammar School played a Sullivan Upper School Select xv at the Meadowbank Sports Arena in Magherafelt. The Sullivan Upper team won an exciting encounter by 34-14. The Limavady Grammar School team had built up a 14-10 by the break before the Sullivan Upper team came back strongly to dominate proceedings in the second half. James and Joshua Howe were the try scorers for the Limavady Grammar School team with James adding two conversions.
Ballyclare High School 2ndxv played Wellington College in a close encounter the Ballyclare HS team won by 7-5. Wellington College took a 5-0 lead in the fourth minute when Harry Garrett ran in for an unconverted try from his own half. Wellington College, with Dylan O’Brien and Josh Bingham in top form, continued to play well but could find no way through a resolute Ballyclare defence.
The Ballyclare HS team dominated proceedings in the second half but it was not until the final play of the game they were able to secure their win. Matthew Orr touched down for a try in the corner and it took a superb touchline conversion from Andrew Petrie to secure the hard earned 7-5 victory.
In the first round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2nd xv Cup Belfast High School hosted the Royal School, Armagh team. The RS Armagh team won the game by 38-8.
On Friday 16th November Campbell College, Belfast played Royal Belfast Academical Institution at CIYMS Rugby Club. Having lost narrowly against Blackrock College by 6-3 in their previous outing the injury ravaged Belfast Inst team was hoping to get back to winning ways in the course of this game. However, it was not to be as the Campbell College team won the game by 30-13. The Campbell College points came through tries from Danny Williamson, Rex Tinsley, Jack Boal and Paddy McAlpine. Conor Rankin added two conversions as well as two penalties.
Robin McIlveen, having kicked a penalty against Blackrock College, scored all thirteen points for the Royal Belfast Academical Institution team against Campbell College. Robin scored a try, which he converted, as well as two penalty kicks.
On Saturday 17th November Ballyclare High School hosted Bangor Grammar School in a game the Bangor Grammar School team won by 28-20. Both teams scored four tries with the Ballyclare HS tries coming from Jack Gault, James Logan, Robert Reid and Matthew McCullough.
The Bangor GS points came through tries from Conor Lusty, who touched down twice, Harry Angus and Patrick Dobie. Rhys Larmour was successful with all four conversions.
Banbridge Academy took a 3-0 lead against Friends’ School, Lisburn when Andy Denvir kicked an early penalty. Following a scrappy first half the Friends’ School team took a 6-3 lead into the break with two Reece Malone penalties.
The Friends’ School team scored five tries in the second half with Oliver Saunders, Luke Scoffield, Ethan Terris, Sam Greer and Reece Malone all touching down. Reece added two conversions to secure the 35-3 win for the Friends’ School, Lisburn team.
Carrickfergus Grammar School played Belfast High School in a closely contested game the Belfast High School team won by 10-5. Jakob McComb scored the Carrickfergus Grammar School try with Ross Gray scoring a try for the Belfast High School team to which Aaron Douglas added a conversion as well as a penalty.
Dalriada School hosted Belfast Royal Academy in a game the Belfast Royal Academy team won by 28-12. Henry Ross and Paddy Carson scored the Dalriada School tries with Paddy adding one conversion.
The Belfast Royal Academy points came through tries from Ryan Jameson, who scored a hat trick, and Adam Kane. Harry Warke was successful with all four conversion kicks.
Grosvenor Grammar School defeated Larne Grammar school by 27-12. Joseph McNaughton, Jordan Brown, Josh Patterson and Harry Graham scored the Grosvenor Grammar School tries with Adam Moore adding two conversions as well as one penalty.
Larne Grammar School got their points through tries from Jason Ward and Aaron Gallagher with Euan Glenn adding one conversion.
Limavady Grammar School played Cambridge House Grammar School in a game the Cambridge House team won by 41-3. Rhys Ervine touched down for a hat trick of tries with James McNabney scoring two tries and Josh Mark and Kane McElroy scoring one try apiece. Jordan McMullan was successful with three of his conversion kicks.
Jamie Howe kicked a penalty for the Limavady Grammar School team.
Methodist College, Belfast hosted Coleraine Grammar School at Pirrie Park and recorded an impressive 45-0 win. Kevin McNaboe with two, Chris Larmour, Tom Millar, Ben Gourley, Ben Crangle and Ethan McIlroy were the try scorers for the Methody team. Five Ethan McIlroy conversions secured the 45-0 victory for the Methodist College, Belfast team.
Portadown College played Enniskillen Royal Grammar School in a game the Enniskillen RGS team won by 71-19. The Portadown College points came through tries from Ethan Williamson, who touched down twice, and Dan Neill. Adam Speers added the extras to two of the tries.
The Enniskillen RGS team ran in eleven tries. Alex Parke touched down for a hat trick with Sam Balfour scoring two. Curtis Coalter, Stuart Brown, Justin White, Taine Haire, Stephen Balfour and Calum Smyton ran in for one try each with Eddie Keys adding eight conversions.
Regent House School played Down High School in a high scoring game the Down High School team won by 44-22. Stuart Martin scored two tries, two conversions as well as one penalty for the Regent House team. Ethan McFarland scored one try.
The Down High School points came through tries from Greg Hutley, who touched down twice, Conor Gibson, who also scored two, Charlie Marshall, Christy Lindsay and Josh Hanlon. Greg Hutley was successful with three of his conversion kicks as well as one penalty kick..
Royal School, Armagh hosted St Mary’s College, Dublin in a game the St Mary’s College team won by 24-12. Jason Denley and Peter Taylor scored tries for the RS Armagh team with Charlie Worth adding one conversion.
The St Mary’s College points came through two tries from Jean Luc-Carville and two from Adam Martin. Max Whelan was successful with two conversion kicks.
Royal School, Dungannon defeated Dromore High School by 38-12. Jack Girvan ran in for two tries for the RS Dungannon team with Charlie Conroy, Lewis Connolly, Logan McIlravie and Adam Junk touching down for one try each. Luke McMullan added the extras to four of the tries.
Sam Fairley and Tom Dologhan scored the tries for the Dromore High School team with Josh Patterson adding one conversion.
Wallace High School hosted Omagh Academy in a game the Wallace High School team won by 34-12. The Wallace High School team scored five tries through Dillon Sedge, Luke Allison, Ben Carson, Jack Dillon and one penalty try. Nathan Doak converted two of the tries as well as one penalty kick.
