Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 16th February 2019
On Monday 11th February the one remaining Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate 1/4 Final game was played when Portadown College hosted Belfast High School. The Portadown College team won the game by 55-12.
On Tuesday 12th February Rainey Endowed School hosted Craigavon Senior High School in the 1/4 Finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate. The Rainey Endowed School team won the game by 31-12.
On the same afternoon Foyle and Londonderry College hosted Banbridge Academy in a 1/2 game of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy. The Foyle and Londonderry College team won the game by 20-15.
Omagh Academy hosted Limavady Grammar School in the 1/4 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl competition at Omagh Academicals RFC. Omagh Academy won the game by 24-10.
Both teams would like to thank Omagh Academicals RFC for the provision of facilities and hosting the game.
On Wednesday 13th February the Strabane Academy team hosted Limavady Grammar School in the postponed Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Trophy semi-final. The Limavady Grammar School team won the entertaining game by 26-20. Gareth Duncan, Jamie Brown and Jordan Mealiff scored the tries for the Strabane Academy team with Harry McCrossan adding a penalty as well as a conversion.
The Limavady Grammar School points came through James Howe who put in a “Man of the Match” performance with four tries and three successful conversions.
The final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Trophy will be played between Dromore High School and Limavady Grammar School at Ballymena Academy on Monday 25th February.
The Royal School, Armagh 2ndxv played the Methodist College, Belfast 2ndxv in the first 1/2 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup. The Methodist College, Belfast team won the game by 12-3.
On the same day in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup 1/4 Finals Methodist College, Belfast 4thxv played Omagh Academy 3rdxv and won the game by 22-15.
Methodist College, Belfast 3rdxv played the Royal School, Armagh 3rdxv in a Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup 1/4 Final game which the Methodist College team won by 52-12.
The scheduled Ballymena Academy 3rdxv v Royal Belfast Academical Institution 3rdxv Cup 1/4 Final has been postponed until Wednesday 27th February as has the game involving the Royal Belfast Academical Institution 4thxv and Campbell College, Belfast 3rdxv.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate 1/4 Final qualifier game Banbridge Academy 3rdxv played the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School 3rdxv. The Enniskillen Royal Grammar School team won the game by 33-19. The Enniskillen Royal Grammar School team now play Down High School at home in the 1/4 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate on Wednesday 27th February.
In the second qualifier Royal School, Armagh 4thxv will play Sullivan Upper School 3rdxv on Wednesday 27th February. The winners will then play Belfast Royal Academy 3rdxv at home in the 1/4 Final
Limavady Grammar School 3rdxv played Wallace High School 3rdxv in a 3rdxv Plate 1/4 game the Wallace High School won by 19-12. The Wallace High School 3rdxv will now play the winners of the games involving Royal School, Armagh 4thxv, Sullivan Upper School 3rdxv and Belfast Royal Academy 3rdxv in the semi-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate.
In the second Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl 1/2 Final Down High School defeated Portadown College by 32-7. Down High School will now play Omagh Academy in the final on Saturday 2nd March at the Royal School, Dungannon.
On Friday 15th February Enniskillen Royal Grammar School defeated Larne Grammar School by 10-3 in the semi-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy. The Enniskillen Royal Grammar School team will now play Foyle and Londonderry College in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy at Rainey Endowed School on Saturday 2nd March.
On Saturday 16th February there were games played in the 1/4 Finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield and 1/4 Finals of the Medallion Plate competitions.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield 1/4 Finals Sullivan Upper School defeated Coleraine Grammar School by 17-15, Royal School, Dungannon lost by 24-21 against Methodist College, Belfast, Ballymena Academy defeated Royal School, Armagh by 17-0 and Campbell College, Belfast defeated Royal Belfast Academical Institution by 15-7.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate 1/4 Finals the game involving Wallace High School and Dromore High School was stopped and will be replayed on Saturday 23rd February. Ballyclare High School lost by 14-10 at home against Grosvenor Grammar School and Belfast Royal Academy defeated Bangor Grammar School by 12-5.
The draws took place for the semi-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield and Plate competitions. The results of the draws are as follows 🙂

In the second Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup 1/2 Final the game involving Campbell College, Belfast 2ndxv and the Royal Belfast Academical Institution 2ndxv was postponed until Wednesday 27th February.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate 1/2 Finals Coleraine Grammar School defeated Grosvenor Grammar School by 50-5 and Regent House School lost by 27-26 against Portadown College. The date and venue for this Danske Bank Schools’ final are to be confirmed.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate 1/4 Finals Rainey Endowed School 3rdxv defeated Royal Belfast Academical Institution 5thxv by 31-14.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School 3rdxv will play Down High School 3rdxv on Wednesday 27th February.

Omagh Academy took the opportunity of the half term break to travel across to Edinburgh where they played a game against the Currie RFC U18 team. The Omagh Academy team emerged as 24-20 winners at the end of an exciting game. Harry Stephenson, Michael Marechaux, Jake McKay and Robbie Sproule scored the Omagh Academy tries to which Rory Ritchie added two conversions.
