Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 15th September 2018
There was one midweek schoolboy friendly game prior to a full list of fixtures played on Saturday 15th September.
Antrim Grammar School hosted a Royal School, Armagh Select xv in an exciting midweek game the RS Armagh team won by 40-24. The Antrim Grammar School points came through two tries from Callum McComb, one try from Adam Carville and three conversions, as well as a penalty, from Callum Hull.
The Royal School, Armagh team scored six tries through Jonny Ewart, who touched down for three, and Alex McNeice, Joshua Cunningham and Matthew Thomas Smith. William Kells converted one try while Jonny Ewart completed a “Man of the Match” performance with three successful conversions.
The last of the U19 Inter-Provincial games was played on Saturday 15th September when the Ulster U19 team hosted the Leinster U19 team at Newforge Country Club. In the course of a very tight encounter it was the Leinster team that ended the game as 15-14 winners.
In an intriguing first half the first points of the game came when David Fitzgibbon converted a penalty opportunity to give the Leinster team a 3-0 lead midway through the first period. This setback seemed to galvanise the Ulster team and they took play to the Leinster team. The Ulster team eventually got rewarded for their endeavours when David McCann touched down for a try, which Conor Rankin converted, to give the Ulster team a 7-3 lead at the break.
The Ulster team started the second half in a very positive manner. The Leinster defence had to work hard to keep the Ulster attacks at bay. That was until twelve minutes into the second period when Adam Hanna blasted his way over the Leinster line to touch down for a try. Conor Rankin added the extras to secure a deserved 14-3 lead for the Ulster team. The Leinster team then took control of affairs and reduced the deficit to 14-10 when Matthew Jungman ran in for a try which was converted by Shane Murphy. Close to the end of the game the Leinster U19 team sealed their win when a counter attack from deep finished with Mark O’Brien touching down for an unconverted try. This 15-14 win for the Leinster team secured their second U19 Inter Pro in two years.

Ballyclare High School hosted Campbell College, Belfast in a game the Campbell College team won by 24-10. The Campbell College points came through tries from Rex Tinsley, Adam Russell and Paddy McAlpine. Dara Gaskin was successful with two conversions as well as two penalties.
The Ballyclare High School points came through a try from Jack Gamble, which was converted by Mark Jackson. Mark was also successful with one penalty attempt.
Bangor Grammar School defeated Belfast Metropolitan College by 52-5. Conor Lusty and Lewis Hatty each scored a brace of tries for the Bangor team with Michael McCreery, Ross Campbell, Harry Angus and Will Simpson each scoring one try. Rhys Larmour was successful with six conversion kicks.
Belfast High School played their near neighbours from Carrickfergus Grammar School and put on an impressive performance before emerging as 43-7 winners.
Belfast Royal Academy played Limavady Grammar School and won the game by 62-0. Many of the BRA players impressed with their performances and, in particular, Harry Warke, Adam Keed, Louis West, Ben Brown, Daniel Logan and Adam Kane.
Dromore High School played Lurgan College and recorded an impressive 34-7 victory. Richard Dickson touched down twice for the Dromore HS team with Reuben Turner, Aaron Lyttle, Josh Patterson and Nathan Kamlin each touching down once. Rhys Dale added two conversions.
The Lurgan points came through a Josh Best try, which he converted.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School played Regent House School and won the game by a convincing 34-0 margin. Alex Parke scored a hat trick of tries with Stuart Brown, Neil Rutledge and Calum Smyton each scoring one. Eddie Keys was successful with three conversion kicks.
Foyle and Londonderry College played City of Derry RFC U18s in a game the Foyle College team won by 39-0. Leading 6-0 at the break, through two Keelin Coyle penalties, the Foyle team really opened the game up in the second half.
Keelin Coyle touched down twice as did Ben Galbraith. Tom Adair scored a fifth try and Keelin Coyle completed a Man of the Match performance with four successful conversions.
Friends’ School, Lisburn played Cambridge House School and recorded an impressive 53-3 victory. Jack Harte scored a hat trick of tries and Rhys Malone each scored two tries with Luke Scofield and Fergus Mc Ewan each scoring one. Rhys Malone was successful with six conversions as well as two penalties to earn the Man of the Match award.
The Cambridge House points came from a Josh Caldwell penalty early in the game.
Grosvenor Grammar School hosted a Down High School team that continued to enjoy early season success when they won the game by 36-10. Conor Moag touched down twice for the Down High School team as did Reuben Dickson. Andy McCoubrey and Ben Gibson scored one try each and Luka Walsh added three conversions.
The Grosvenor Grammar School team scored an unconverted try in each half of the game.
Larne Grammar School continued their recent run of good form when they hosted Wellington College, Belfast. The Larne Grammar School team recorded an impressive 47-0 win. They scored five first half tries through Jamie Ross, Aaron Gallagher and Callum Adair and Jack Withers, who touched down twice.
Jamie Ross added two more tries in the second half and Jordan Mc Elhinney scored one. Euan Glen was successful with six out of seven conversion attempts.
Methodist College played Belvedere College, Dublin and continued their good run of form with a 26-17 win. The Methodist College points came through tries from Peter O’Hagan, who touched down for three, and Liam Black. Ryan Lindsay was successful with three conversions. Lorcan Hanratty, Reuben Murray-Twin, Joe Dickson and Jonny Riddell impressed for the Methodist College through the game.
Rainey Endowed School played Dalriada School and recorded a well-deserved 56-7 win. The Rainey ES teanm scored eight tries in the course of the game with Karl Warner scoring twice and Bryan Hall, Rory Bradley, Ross Speers, Ciaran Doyle, Jonathan Brennan and Jack Bresland each scoring one try. Harry Evans was successful with all eight conversions.
Dalriada scored a consolation converted try in the second half.
Royal School, Armagh played St Gerard’s School and lost the entertaining game by 37-24. The Armagh points came through tries from Ryan Finlay, Aaron Woods, Josh King and Jonny Agnew. Jonny was successful with two conversions.
Royal School, Dungannon played Sullivan Upper School in a game the Sullivan Upper team won by 26-18. The RS Dungannon points came through tries from Peter Busby and Jack Girvan with Luke McMullan adding one conversion as well as three penalties.
The Sullivan Upper School points came through tries from Jamie Thallon, Thomas Leitch and Rory Houston. ConnorMc Kee added three conversions as well as one penalty.
Coleraine Grammar School played Omagh Academy in a game which finished as a 10-10 draw. It was a workmanlike display from both teams with the Coleraine points coming through tries from Marcus Poskitt and Tyler McNeill.
The Omagh Academy points came through a try from Michael Marechaux which was converted by Will Stewart. Will was also successful with a penalty kick.
Wallace High School recorded a well-earned 35-0 win against their Dublin visitors from Castleknock College. The Wallace High School team scored five converted tries with Jack Dillon scoring twice and Lewis Nelmes, Ben Carson and Dillon Sedge each scoring one try. Nathan Doak was successful with all five conversions.
