Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 14th October 2017
There were three fixtures played midweek in the lead up to a full list of fixtures on Saturday 14th October.
Ballyclare High School played a “Select” xv against Carrickfergus Grammar School on Wednesday 11th in a game the Ballyclare High School team won by 22-19. The Carrickfergus Grammar School points came through tries from Nicky Rodgers, Jack Irvine and Jack Leathem. Daniel Curley was successful with two conversion kicks.
The Ballyclare High School points came from a Thomas Ferguson try, a Patrick White try and a Mark Jackson try. Mark was successful with two conversions as well as a penalty.
Banbridge Academy travelled to play Dublin Catholic University School at The Donnybrook Stadium in Dublin. In a closely contested game the Banbridge Academy team ended up losing by 20-12. Adam Hanna and Matthew Robinson scored tries for the Banbridge team with Tom Flanagan adding one conversion. Stuart Totten and Chris Patterson impressed for the Banbridge Academy team with their performances during the game.
On Friday 13th October Belfast High School hosted Larne Grammar School in a game the Larne team won by 26-5. Larne scored four tries through Arron Gallagher, Jamie Ross and Jack Withers, who touched down twice. Euan Glenn added three conversions. The Belfast High School No 8 scored an unconverted try for his team.
Banbridge Academy put on a very positive performance before going down by 26-12 against Bangor Grammar School. Adam Hanna and Chris Patterson scored tries for the Banbridge Academy team with Tom Flanagan adding one conversion.
Aaron Sexton, Zach Kerr, Stephen Quinn and Andrew Gibson scored tries for the Bangor Grammar School team with Rhys Larmour adding three conversions.
Belfast Royal Academy hosted Ballymena Academy in a game the Ballymena Academy won by 45-7. Mark Thompson and Stewart Moore each scored two tries for the Ballymena Academy team with Jordan Foster. Lewis McGuckian and John Glass touching down for one try each. Bruce Houston was successful with five of his conversion kicks.
Brandon Hasson scored a consolation try for the Belfast Royal Academy team with Harry Warke adding the conversion.
Cambridge House recorded a huge 62-0 win against Carrickfergus Grammar School in a game that saw the home team score ten tries. Kane McIlroy scored a hat trick with Jack Wilson touching down for two and Peter Munce, Tom Lowry, Josh Mark, Jack Wilson and Rhys Ervine each scoring one. Sam Millar was successful with six conversions.
Coleraine Grammar School played Campbell College, Belfast in a game the Campbell College team won by 17-5. Rex Tinsley, Jamie Macartney and Kieran Robertson scored tries for the Campbell College team with Conor Rankin adding one conversion.
Luke Norris scored a consolation try for the Coleraine Grammar School team.
Dalriada School hosted Friends’ School, Lisburn in a game the Dalriada team won by 21-12. Luke Pollock, Ross Fallows and Will Scott scored the Dalriada tries all of which were converted by James McCormick.
The Friends’ School points came through tries from Ben McCaughey and George Pringle with Reece Malone adding one conversion.
Down High School fielded a “Select” xv against Dromore High School in a game the Down High School team won by 36-10. Stewart Campbell, Andrew McCoubrey, Chris Scurfield, Alex Martin, Rhys Hagan and Daniel Millington scored the tries for Down High School with Greg Hutley adding three conversions.
Adam Whitten scored the Dromore High School try with Reuben Cobb adding one penalty as well as one conversion.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School played the Royal School, Dungannon team in a closely contested encounter the Enniskillen team won by 18-13. Reece Smyton, Alex Armstrong and Jack Rutledge scored the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School tries with Reece adding a penalty kick as well.
Luke McMullan kicked two early penalties for the Royal School, Dungannon team with Nikki Graham scoring a try which was converted by Adam Evans.
Limavady Grammar School hosted Ballyclare High School and made the Ballyclare team work hard for their 35-12 win. Josh Young scored two tries for the Ballyclare High School team with Josh Cowan, Jack Gamble and Adam Campbell scoring one try apiece. Adam Clarke was successful with all five conversions.
The Limavady Grammar School points came through tries from John McMichael and James Howe with Jamie Young adding one conversion.
Lurgan College scored 48 points against an inexperienced Campbell College Colts xv when the teams met at Lurgan College. Peter Hutchinson and Ryan Holmes each scored two tries with John Woods, Mark McElhinney, Luke Forsythe and Rory Burns each scoring one try. Josh Best was successful with four conversions.
Regent House School and Grosvenor Grammar School met in a game which saw the Grosvenor Grammar School record their first win of the season with a hard earned 20-12 win. Adam Moore and Matthew Logan scored the Grosvenor Grammar School tries with Jos McConkey adding two conversions as well as two penalties.
Ryan Uprichard and Callum Dawson scored tries for the Regent House School team with Jack Smith adding one conversion.
The Royal School, Armagh team recorded a comprehensive 58-3 victory against their near neighbours from Portadown College. The RS Armagh team had built up a 24-3 lead by the break with tries from Jack Treanor, Callum Whiteside, Michael Campbell and Zac Thompson. Zac was successful with two first half conversions. Adam Speers converted a penalty opportunity for the Portadown College team.
The RS Armagh team continued with their expansive approach in the second half of the game. Jack Treanor scored two more tries as did Zac Thompson and Matthew Reaney. Zac Thompson and Ryan O’Neill each added one second half conversion to secure the 58-3 victory for the Royal School, Armagh team.
A Rainey Endowed “Select” xv played a very spirited Strabane Academy team in a game the Rainey ES team won by 28-0. Adam Thornton and Sam Hardy scored first half tries for the Rainey team with Sam adding two conversions to see the Rainey team into a 14-0 lead at the break.
The second half saw the Rainey team score two more tries through Gregory Conway and Micahel McIvor-New. Sam Hardy added two more conversions.
For the Strabane Academy team Ralph Mealiff and Michael Doherty impressed with their performances throughout the game.
The Royal Belfast Academical Institution team played the Methodist College, Belfast team in a game the Belfast Inst team won by 16-5. Robin McIlveen kicked two first half penalties to give his team a 6-0 lead at half time.
David McCann scored a second half try for the Belfast Inst team to which Robin McIlveen added a conversion as well as a penalty. Ben Crangle scored an unconverted try for the Methodist College team which left the scoreboard reading 16-5 in favour of the Royal Belfast Academical Institution team at the end of the game.
Wallace High School played Sullivan Upper School in a game the Wallace High School team won by 22-7. Jamie Peters, Jack Dillon and Jack Bailie scored tries for the Wallace High School team with Nathan Doak adding one penalty as well as two conversions.
Rory Kilpatrick scored one try for the Sullivan Upper team which was converted by Connor McKee.
