Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 11th February 2017

There was one Danske Bank Ulster Schools 2ndxv Cup Quarter-Final replay game played on Monday 6th February, one Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup Semi-Final, one Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate Semi-Final, one Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate Semi-Final and one Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy Semi-Final played on Wednesday 8th February, one Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate Quarter-Final and one Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl Semi-Final played on Thursday 9th February in the lead up to four Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield Semi-Finals, three Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate Quarter-Finals, one Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy Semi-Final, one Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate Semi-Final and one friendly game played on Saturday 11th February. Unfortunately a number of these fixtures, scheduled for Saturday 11th February, were subsequently unable to be played due to frost bound pitches.

On Monday 6th February Wallace High School hosted Ballymena Academy in a replay of their drawn Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup Quarter-Final game. This was another closely contested game between two very even teams. The Wallace High School team won the game by 8-7 and will now travel to play Methodist College, Belfast 2ndxv in the semi-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools 2ndxv Cup.

On Wednesday 8th February the Royal Belfast Academical Institution 2ndxv travelled to play Campbell College, Belfast 2ndxv in the semi-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup. The Royal Belfast Academical Institution team won the game by 40-0. The Royal Belfast Academical Institution team will await the winners of the Methodist College 2ndxv v Wallace High School 2ndxv semi-final game to establish who they will play in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup.

In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate semi-final Dalriada School 2ndxv travelled to play the Royal School, Armagh 2ndxv in a midweek game the Dalriada School team won. Dalriada School 2ndxv won the game by 19-17 and will now await the outcome of the remaining semi-final featuring the Rainey Endowed School 2ndxv and Ballyclare High School 2ndxv.

In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate Semi-Final the Ballymena Academy 3rdxv hosted the Royal Belfast Academical Institution 5th xv in a midweek game the Ballymena Academy 3rdxv won by 32-8. The Ballymena Academy 3rdxv will now play Campbell College, Belfast 3rdxv in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate which will be played at the Belfast Royal Academy playing fields at Roughfort on Wednesday 1st March.

In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy Semi-Final Ballyclare Secondary School hosted Wellington College, Belfast in a midweek game the Ballyclare Secondary School team won by 40-5. The Ballyclare Secondary School team will now await the outcome of the Rainey Endowed School v Grosvenor Grammar School semi-final to establish who they play in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy.

On Thursday 9th February Dalriada School hosted Banbridge Academy in the quarter-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate. The Banbridge Academy team won the game by 19-12.

On the same afternoon Enniskillen Royal Grammar School Medallion hosted Coleraine Grammar School Medallion in the semi-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl. The Enniskillen Royal Grammar School team won the game by 17-0. The winners will now play Down High School in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl competition on Saturday 25th February.

On Saturday 11th February there were four Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield Quarter-Final games. Omagh Academy hosted Portadown College in a game the Portadown College team won by 17-15. Due to a severe frost at the Campsie Playing Fields the game was switched at late notice to Omagh Academicals Rugby Club. Both schools would like to thank the Omagh Academicals Rugby Club for hosting the game. Wallace High School hosted the Royal School, Armagh team in a game the Royal School, Armagh team won by 7-5. In another Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield quarter-final game played in Lisburn the Friends’ School team hosted Methodist College in a game the Friends’ School team won by 12-8. Bangor Grammar School played Royal Belfast Academical Institution in another closely contested game the Bangor Grammar School team by 14-12.

Three Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate Quarter-Final games were scheduled to have been played on Saturday 11th February. The weather impacted on some of these games but the Sullivan Upper team did manage to play against the Royal School, Dungannon team in a game the Sullivan Upper team won by 29-10.

The one remaining Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy Semi-Final game involving Rainey Endowed School and Grosvenor Grammar School was also impacted upon by weather conditions.

 

When the results of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion games that were played came through the draws foe the semi-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield and Plate competitions took place.

Royal School, Armagh v Bangor Grammar School

Portadown College v Friends’ School, Lisburn

These games are scheduled to be played on Saturday 25th February at neutral venues.

The winners of the Royal School, Armagh v Bangor Grammar School game will have use of the home changing rooms at the Kingspan Stadium on the day of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield final which is Tuesday March 7th  at 2-30pm.

In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate Semi-Final the Rainey Endowed School 2ndxv was scheduled to play Ballyclare High School 2ndxv. This game did not take place due to frozen pitch conditions. The winners of this game will play Dalriada School in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate.

There was one schoolboy friendly game played on Saturday 11th February when Carrickfergus Grammar School and Regent House School played out a 3×20 minutes game involving players from Years 11 and 12. The Carrickfergus Grammar School points came through tries from Jack Leathem, Josh Irvine and Daniel Curley who scored two. Daniel was also successful with four conversions as well as a penalty. For Regent House Ryan Uprichard two tries, Matthew Gibson one conversion.
