Craig Gilroy Looks for Blood

During the Rugby World Cup many people will take the time to follow Ireland as they progress throughout the competition. However, over the six weeks of the competition 3,000 people in Northern Ireland will need to receive a life-saving blood transfusion.

Very much supported by Craig Gilroy of Ulster, the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service (NIBTS) is launching a campaign to attract new blood donors from rugby clubs. They are encouraging players, coaches, staff and supporters from all local clubs to help enrol at least fifteen new donors from each. Seen in the photograph are Craig Gilroy, mascot “Billy Blood Drop”, Emma Sloan and Andrea Copithorne, both from NIBTS.

Giving blood is such an easy thing to do and could be used to save the life of a child with leukaemia, a mother during child birth someone undergoing a routine operation or someone with cancer. Literally speaking, in the time it takes to watch half a rugby match you could give blood and save someone’s life.

To enrol as a new blood donor please text BLOOD RWC to 60081, or to ask how you or your club can help please call Andrea Copithorne at 028 9053 4675 or email andrea.copithorne@nibts.hscni.net.
