The “Country Comes to City” Concert at City of Derry Rugby Club on Saturday night last which featured Nathan Carter with Guest Lee Matthews was an outstanding success. The audience of almost four thousand people saw fans form 6yrs old to over 80’s enjoying a memorable occasion that will live in the memory forever of not only the crowd but the artists and their management as well.

The Concert was organised as a fundraiser by members of Institute Football Club and City of Derry Rugby and the money raised will help to offset the drop in Sponsorship from local business due to the economic downturn.

Nathan Carter’s Manager John Farry said after the Concert that he and Nathan were blown away by the Venue and the reaction of the Audience. Nathan went on to say on stage that he would like to come back and play the Venue next Summer. He was on his Facebook Page within an hour of the Concert posting a Video Clip which he took himself and describing the Concert as an “Awesome Gig”.

The evening started with a VIP Dinner in the Clubhouse attended by Nathan Carter and Lee Matthews with their Bands and Management. The Mayor Brenda Stevenson was also in attendance as the Guest got up close and personal with the Stars of the Show. The Concert started with Castlederg golden boy Lee Matthews who was only launched in February showing that he is destined for the top in Irish Country Music with a set that had the Crowd Jiving from the off.

The scene had been set and the expectation had reached fever pitch when Nathan Carter came on stage at 9.30pm. The crowd were not disappointed as Nathan showed why he is the No1 Irish Country Artist, they just loved his Set as they sang and danced and hope the night would never end.

Ivan Parkhill of Institure FC said after the Concert “It took an awful lot of hard work and long hours from people like Andrew Russell, Scott Pollock, Neil Stewart and others to put something of this magnitude in place for the first time, its a credit to them all but it shows that two Clubs from different sports can work together and there is nothing to stop us doing this again. The experience gained will stand us in good stead to do this again next Summer.

Moss Dineen from City of Derry Rugby Club said that Aiken Promotions who are responsible for the Gareth Brooks Concerts at Croke Park are looking to meet with a view to running a weekend Event next Summer at City of Derry Rugby Club. They had a representative at the Concert and were impressed with the Venue, Layout, Support Services and Organisation of an Event of that Magnitude for the First time. Moss also said “We were glad also that we were able to help The Merryn Lacy Neuroblastoma Appeal. I would to thank all the local Support Services and Agencies for all their help in making this unique Event for both Clubs a fantastic success.
