Great win in the first round of the Rosie Stewart Cup
Cooke start of the new year with a win away from home to Carrickfergus Ladies.
Cooke Women played the first round of the Rosie Stewart Cup on Sunday away to Carrickfergus.
With new coaching staff and the motivation of the “Rosie Stewart Cup” the women have been training hard over the Christmas break. The training paid of with a great team performance to secure a 71 – 0 over Carrick.
Carrick gained possession from the Cooke kick off and retained the ball through some great ball carrying and rucking. The Cooke defence remained strong holding Carrick in their own half. Cooke took advantage of a mistake by the Carrick pack allowing Eliza Downey to secure Cooke’s first try of the match and of 2012. With Captain Grace Davitt being called up to Irish duty, Lizzie Ballentine took on the role of place kicker. Lizzie raised to the pressure bringing the score to 7-0. Cooke dominated the first half securing the bonus point. Carrick didn’t give up and put in some great defence and attack play.
The second half was a tough fought game. With some great scrums from Carrick. They retained the ball to allow them to put some pressure on Cooke. With some good tackles and defence the Cooke pack were able to secure the ball on many occasions to allow their backs to bring the final score to 71 – 0 to Cooke.
