Monaghan travelled to Stormont to face Civil Service on a surprisingly warm and sunny afternoon after the prolonged wintery weather that had looked like ruling the pitches unplayable for another week. After a fantastic result against Lurgan Monaghan, a team whos exploits dont always recieve the recognotion they deserve, came to Stormont confident of another win. Facing them was a Service side devestated by injuries and showing the effects of having been unable to train for 2 weeks. The result was decided by half time with the Monaghan backline proving to much for the Service defenders to handle with their offloading and strong running a real highlight of the game.

In truth the scoreline could have been greater with Monaghan unable to convert some good scoring opportuinites but credit to the Service team who never gave up even when reduced to 13 men. It would be hard to choose a Man of the Match with so many of the Monaghan players having a fine game but try of the match was certainly their beautiful score in the first half where after securing ball from their line out they put together a dozen passes which stretched the Service defensive line to breaking and allowed the Monaghan right winger in to score in the far corner.

In Touch is pleased also to report that we spotted services Ben Scott in the front row this week having previously seen him in th back row and at scrum half ealier in the season, truly a supremely versitle sportsman.

Next up for Monaghan is a trip to Letterkenny on the 8th January in a hot anticipated face off between the two top sides in Ulster Rugby Kukri Qualifying 3A. For Civil Service its the long trip to play Londonderry YM on the 18th December
