P3 Report
Firstly we would like to thank all the parents who helped out this morning. There was a strong P3 turn out in such cold conditions. All teams, Civil Service, Malone & Ballyclare, were well matched which made for close and exciting games. Civil Services defensive work, particularly the tackling, was excellent with strong performances from Oliver S and Josh. In attack the boys worked well together and we had some great breaks from Tom, Max and others resulting in well deserved tries.

P4 Report
The P4’s put in a spirited performance during their first match against Malone. Despite the cold conditions and hard ground the team displayed their best tackling this season and the progress they have made over the last few weeks training was evident. Mention must go to Killian Marshall who put on a dazzling display of running with ball in hand. His jinky sidesteps continually asked questions of the Malone defence which simply had no answers.
The spectators were also treated to great running by Ethan Lunn and Codey Blythe and strong tackling by Fionn O’Neill. The coaching team sees potential in all the players to make blistering runs and we will be seeking to develop this over the coming months.
The second match was against a very well drilled and confident Malone team that has been developing its tackling since last Christmas. Our P4’s were tired coming into the game and Malone was just too good on the day. It is apparent that tackling will have to remain a focus in our training matches and we fully expect to unleash a tackling tsunami at this Malone fixture next year.
Despite the disappointment of the second game, there was great enthusiasm from the players at the prospect of playing Ballyclare. As coaches, it is great to see the team enjoy the game so much.
Ballyclare and Civil Service were evenly matched and players such as Rory Cranston and Leon had more opportunity to run with the ball.
There is nothing better than playing rugby on a bright crisp winter’s morning and the players seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

P6 Report
Civil Service U10s had encouraging performances against both Malone and Ballyclare U10s on a cold and frosty (and very small) pitch. Whilst scores weren’t being tracked too closely, Civil probably edged both teams with their mix of quick tackling, close forward play and brave running through the tackles. Given the small pitch, our natural wide game and running rugby just weren’t going to happen, so it was a case of “knuckling down” and working hard together – especially with both opposition teams trying to exploit their bigger kids to break through our line. Refereeing was excellent, allowing the boys to build on their strengths of supporting play, hunger for the ball and speed. Areas to work on include (1) running straighter lines and making use of quicker passing (2) avoiding coming in at the side and giving away penalties, and (3) tackling (will always be on this list!!!).
Well done to the team – great performances.
