Senior Training for the coming Rugby Season starts at City of Derry Rugby Club, Judges Road on Tuesday 30th July 2013 at 7pm. It will continue thereafter on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
The Rugby Season starts for City of Derry RFC 1st XV on Saturday 17th August with the “IRFU All Ireland Club Sevens” competition as part of “The Irish Rugby Gathering”, which will take place @ UCD, Dublin. This competition is followed the following Saturday the 24th August with a Friendly Fixture against Omagh at Judges Road with a 2.30pm, Kick-off.
The Ulster League commences for City of Derry on Saturday 31st August with a difficult away trip to last years All Ireland Division 1B and Ulster League Champions Ballynahinch. Derry achieved their goal last season with with a top four finish in AIL Division 2A and Head Coach Mark Nicholl and his Assistant Ashley Blair will be hoping this season to push for promotion to AIL 2B with a top two finish. Derry also had a successful season in the Ulster League last season and finished in second position just 4pts behind Ballynahinch.
Saturday the 24th August will also be a big day @ Judges Road for the Youth Section at City of Derry Rugby Club with their Under 13’s and Under 15’s competing in an All Ireland “UK City of Culture” Youth Tournament. The other participating teams will be Skerries from Leinster, UL Bohs from Munster and Creggs from Connacht. The action gets under way at 11am and will be followed by the senior friendly against Omagh.
Saturday the 31st August at Judges Road will see the “UK City of Culture” George Tees Cup” as the main attraction. This competition if for Minor League Teams and will see the home teams 3rd & 4th XV’s involved. It is hoped to make this Annual Competion a special occasion this year with the following Clubs invited to attend; Armagh, Armoy, Ballyclare, Ballymoney, Ballyshannon, Cavan, Clogher Valley, Coleraine, Cookstown, Donegal Town, Dungannon, Enniskillen, Finn Valley, Innishowen, Litterkenny, Limavady, L’Derry YMCA, Monaghan, Omagh, Rainey OB, Randalstown, Strabane, Tir Chonaill, UUC, Virginia, Creggs, Sligo and Dundalk. The action will start at 1pm with the final scheduled for 6pm.
