City of Derry Rugby Club Preview of Games @ Judges Road Saturday 30th August 2014
The Rugby Season kicks off for City of Derry Rugby Club with aplomb on Saturday at Judges Road with a feast of rugby for players and supporters of the game.
The George Tees Cup will be first up with a 12.30pm start and will have ten teams participating with the final scheduled for 5.30pm. This tournament is the most successful 15 a-side organized event still running in Ulster and is looked forward to every year by all minor Teams in the North West.
The teams participation this Saturday are:
Ballymoney,
Coleraine,
University of Ulster @ Coleraine,
Limavady,
CDRFC,
Peter Tees XV,
Enniskillen,
Omagh,
Strabane,
Creggs from Co Roscommon.
The current holders of the trophy are Creggs who have been travelling north for a number of years and will this year be led once more by old City of Derry Stalwart Adrian Leddy who is currently President of Connacht Rugby.
City of Derry Rubgy Club 1stXV start their Ulster League campaign at home also on Saturday when they take on Armagh in a 2.30pm Kick-off.
This fixture did not take play last season as Armagh were unable to travel to Derry to play a mid-week fixture. Both team will be looking forward to this game, for City of Derry it will start preparation for their first All Ireland League Division 2A Fixture away to Rainey on Saturday the 20th September, while Armagh start their AIL campaign on the same day in AIL Division 2B.
There has been a great rivalry between Armagh and Derry since all their close encounters in league and cup game when they both were in the Junior Qualifying League four years ago. The game on Saturday will once again be very competitive with no hold barred and a great spectacle for all supporters.
