ARMAGH MINI RUGBY
Following a very successful 2012-13 season, Armagh Mini rugby commenced pre-season training in August at the club under the guidance of our Mini coaches. Over 250 kids registered with the Mini section during August and September and we are currently receiving additional new members on a weekly basis as a result of the success of the Mini’s section.
This season has seen the introduction of a girls mini section at Armagh and they train every Saturday morning from 0930 – 1030am. All new players are welcome from P2 to P7.
In the first week of September, Armagh P7s were invited to play in a curtain raiser at Rainey and successfully overcame a much larger Rainey team, 5 tries to 3. After the match, the P7s were treated to homemade pizzas and a very entertaining 1st XV game between Rainey and Armagh, which unfortunately, Armagh 1st lost in the last few minutes. The P7 kids and parents who travelled on the team bus had a great day out and our thanks go out to Rainey for their kind hospitality.
At Banbridge Rugby club, Armagh Minis were adjudged the winners of the Devenish Nutrition blitz after a series of keenly contested games at all grades from U-6 to U-11. This was our second success at this event during the last three years as a result of the high level of commitment from Armagh players and coaches.
P1s & P2s
This season has seen a large increase in playing numbers with over 40 children registered in this age group. The P2s played their first ever matches at the Devonish Nutrition blitz in Banbridge and contributed to Armagh being overall winners. We have been very fortunate to have recruited new coaches at P1/P2 levels from parents of kids in these age groups and we hope to encourage more parents to help out on a Saturday morning. It is great to see parents becoming involved with helping out and coaching at this early stage in these young player’s careers.
P3s – P7s
These age groups continue to go from strength to strength and have now played against Banbridge, Portadown and Ballyclare this season. We have consistently fielded two teams per age group and have been very successful against high quality opposition. All parents have been very supportive early season and their kids have enjoyed being part of the City of Armagh Mini rugby set-up.
Macmillan coffee morning
A big thank goes out to all parents and friends of the City of Armagh Rugby club who kindly supported our recent Macmillan coffee morning which raised £435. Without your help, we wouldn’t have been able to hold this event and we look forward to your continued support.
City of Armagh Mini rugby will continue to be successful as a result of the support of our dedicated coaches, fantastic kids and parents.
