Holywood 2 10-38 Cookstown
Cookstown can look forward to the next round of the McCambely Cup after coming away with a 5 try victory.
Cookstown started the brighter and shot into an early 14-0 lead with Woods showing great strength and determination to drive over the line. Things got even better as Quinn would add his name to the scoresheet with an almost carbon copy of the opening score with Currie converting both trys.
Holywood rallied a bit and kept the visiting defense under pressure but Cookstown’s resilience was rewarded with Woods’ second try of the game with Currie again converting. Spellshocked, Holywood rallied and tried to reduce the deficit before half time but that was the last score of the game though Currie tried his luck with a drop goal but fell just short.
Discipline would cost a score for the visitors and while Currie was serving his time in the sin bin the home side scored their first try of the game. Cookstown held on and prevented the hosts from scoring further with the man advantage and Boone took full advantage scoring in the corner.
A crazy few minutes actually seen Cookstown playing two men light as Woods was shown a yellow, followed closely by McKenna. Holywood would take advantage and score with their men advantage.
Minutes after serving his time in the sin bin, Woods would complete his hat trick with a classic counter attack to round of the scoring, but for last ditch defending by the visitors with Holywood being denied a third try right at the depth.
