Bhubesi Pride are a team of 6 dedicated members who are embarking on an overland expedition through Africa, visiting 15 schools in 10 countries en route. Working for the charity United Through Sport, Bhubesi Pride are aiming to use rugby as a tool for change, and will be holding rugby sessions in each school on their visit. Through this they are hoping to develop health and social education, using the core values of rugby to unite, empower and inspire communities in both Africa and England.
The team have finished a week of exciting training, learning vital skills including navigation techniques, vehicle marshalling, mental preparation and first aid, as well as learning about development and sustainability in Africa. They are now spending a month travelling overland from England to Africa, aiming to reach Ethiopia in early February, where their mission will start.
Whilst in local schools, Bhubesi Pride will be working with staff and coaches from the school, and leaving behind plenty of equipment with each school in order that the rugby sessions can be maintained once they depart. As well as coaching rugby, the team aim to teach the pupils of each school about health and social education, linking these to the values of rugby on the pitch.
