@ Limavady Rugby Club, Kick-off; 1pm
City of Derry Rugby Club and Limavady Rugby Club lock horns on Sunday at Limavady Rugby Club for a very deserving cause that is being organised by Willie Ross and his family. The Ross family are organising a number of fundraising events over the weekend to raise funds for The CLIC Sargent Organisation which is a charity that helps children with cancer.
Every day 10 families are told their child has cancer. As the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent is the only organisation to offer all round care and support. That’s because they are there every step of the way: During treatment – They provide specialist nurses, play specialists, Homes from Home. In hospital & at Home – They offer specialist social care and support in the community – providing services for young people, holidays and grants. After treatment – CLIC Sargent helps survivors while supporting those bereaved as well.
The weekends fundraising kicks-off with a Night at the Races & Disco at Limavady Rugby on Saturday evening starting at 7.30pm. Sunday morning sees a Sponsored Walk from Benone to Downhill Beach which will start at 9am and will run until 12 oclock. The main event of the weekend is the Family Fun Day on Sunday at Limavady Rugby Club starting at 1pm featuring the local derby rugby match between City of Derry and Limavady. The usual children’s activities will be the order of the day along with a B-B-Que for everybody.
City of Derry Rugby Club is putting together a team of legends that will embrace youth, exuberance and naivety along with age experience and skullduggery. The Derry team will include the two most successful captains the club has ever had and they are both hookers, Sam McAuley the current skipper who led Derry to the All Ireland League Division 3 Title this season and Robbie Millar is the other hooker who captained the 1999 Double Winning Team that captured the Ulster Senior Cup and League. Robbie will have two stalwarts from that team along with him on Sunday and they are Neil Stewart and Ian Orr both of whom have played for Ulster.
The current crop of players will be represented by three former club captains Bob McKillop, Brian Prue and Stephen Corr and when you add in the likes of Head Coach Bevan Lynch then you have an eclectic mix of rugby generations. Everyone is invited to come along and support the CLIC Sargent Children’s Charity.
