The Carrick 1st XV suffered their first League defeat, and one of their heaviest losses in a very long time, when they were over-powered by a very strong looking Bangor side at Uprichard Park on Saturday 8 October. The young Carrick side simply had no answer to the pace, power and physicality of their opponents and struggled to get any quality possession or even to keep together some semblance of defensive organisation. Carrick did get one try of their own through out-half Aaron McKinney; Andy McIlroy added the conversion points and also kicked a penalty.
The IBS-sponsored Under 19s had an altogrether more successful day, beating Ballymoney by 38 points to 8 at Tom Simms Memorial Park. Playing into a strong wind in the first half,the forwards battled hard throughout and were rewarded with tries from Nathan Wilson,Johnny Murray and Chris Taylor. In the second half, Carrick never looked troubled and their were further tries from Dale Wilson, Marcus Brush and Jack Millar. Adam Kendell converted four of the tries. Despite the convincing win, there are areas where improvement is needed in preparation for next week’s game against Larne.
