Sporting Heroes Dinner
Everyone loves a hero and for sports fans there’s a chance to meet the big-hitters (literally in one case) at the Sporting Heroes Dinner on 2nd July. Boxing legend Billy Schwer is coming to Roar and alongside him will be rugby union giant Leon Lloyd. Leon has a collection of England caps which have pride of place in his stunning career.
Also in the throng is local football hero Jez George who joined CUFC in May 2006 and has overseen the rise from troubled relegation times to the joy of a return to the Football League in 2014. He took his coaching and pitch-side diplomacy into the boardroom, turning round the financial fortunes of the club facilitating (as CEO) some key appointments for the club.

Alongside Jez to keep conversation on the right track will be Dave Dogget, a Director at CUFC. Born in Oakington and educated at Cambridgeshire High School, Dave carved a hugely successful and influential career path in railway engineering and maintenance. In the early 90`s Dave was Infrastructure Director responsible for all the infrastructure from Kings Cross to Edinburgh – that’s a lot of line. Always a team player, he’s always been a supporter of the other key team in his life!

Completing the line-up is another Sporting Hero – winger Perry Groves. One of George Graham’s first signings for Arsenal, Perry spent his longest club period with the Gunners – 21 goals in 155 matches. He also played 4 seasons with Colchester, racking up 26 goals over 142 appearances.

In addition to the sporting banter and excellent cuisine there’s a chance to ‘be a good sport’ and enter the Roar Sporting Auction. “Flog it!” auctioneer Will Axon will bring the gavel down on a number of excellent sporty items.

Tickets to meet our Sporting Heroes are going fast and you can get them for £50 at thecambridgeroar.co.uk
