“In advance of our next game in October, our roving East Antrim reporter John Rainey reports that a ground breaking deal brokered by the Perennials RFC and Local government, that Carrickfergus RFC and Larne RFC will for the first time ever, set aside their differences to play together, side by side, against a star studded Perennials XV.

First Minster Peter Miwadi and other one, Martin McCarlsberg jointly stated “this is a monumental breakthrough in what has been a long and arduous conflict and although this is only the start of a long process the signs are positive that through communication, we don’t see any reason that in the future Carrickfergus and Larne players can walk freely within each other’s townships without fear of abuse and chanting.

Some contentious issues have yet to be finalised such as the wearing of Carrick shirts by Larne players and mistaken “badge kissing” as a form of celebration, that may lead to extreme nausea. That and any try scored, as the subsequent celebration or lack of, could put the process back years.

Boasting one of the heaviest packs in the northern hemisphere and backs for that matter also, it will no doubt be a competitive game. Many Carrick and Larne legends have confirmed they will play but in the sober light of day they may not.

From all “Larrick” related Perennials, we would invite all to come and enjoy the day and to “drop the car, taxi to Belfast about £20 and there are trains from Clipperstown (100 yards from club) at 17:26,18:26,19:26,20:26,21:26 and 22:26 taking 25 mins to Central Station -just follow Denis Fusco.

Let’s make this a big occasion for both clubs and we may even get Terry McCracken involved!

Yes also bring the families, but only under the “I’ll drive there dear and you can drive back after the match, as I need to have word with a few people or simply have an argument. Bit of music and a few pints, what more could you ask for at our age, apart from not going to the toilet 5 times a night.
