40 grassroots rugby teams are asking their local communities to support their bids by voting online for the club for an exclusive End of Season Rugby gala at their rugby club in April 2013.

The rugby teams from across the UK and Ireland are competing for votes to win the ultimate sporting prize as part of the grassroots campaign launched by premium home appliance brand, AEG.

The event will be hosted by England Rugby stars Will Greenwood and Austin Healey and will include expert coaching and team games with some extra special guests. The Gala will go into the evening with a three course meal for 50 guests, a Q+A with the sporting heroes and a charity auction with special prizes to be donated by AEG.

The teams have already won AEG’s Kit and Laundry package as one of the 40 grassroots finalists. As part of the prize the rugby club have designed their brand new kit and have received their very own top of the range AEG washing machine for the start of the new season, in order to keep them looking pristine on the field.

Voting began on Monday 5 November at www.aeg.co.uk/grassroots and supporters of the club will have until Monday 10 December to register their vote.

Former England rugby star Will Greenwood said:

“AEG’s support of grassroots teams plays a very important part in local community sport. AEG’s sponsorship offers access to sporting facilities and equipment and encourages more people, whatever standard, to take up sport.

“This competition hopes to provide a boost to the winning team with some world class coaching and thank the unsung heroes. It will be an opportunity to reward the long serving parents, volunteers, and friends of the clubs. The people who are there every week from the start of the season to the end, in the wind and in the rain, win or lose.”

Graham Bremer, Head of Marketing (UK & Ireland) at AEG, said:

“Our grassroots campaign has provided a bespoke kit and a brand new AEG washing machine to cricket and rugby teams across the country since it began in 2011. Our support means that funds normally spent on kit and laundry can be utilised elsewhere to help develop better training and facilities for the club.

“The sports teams are an excellent demonstration to the quality and technology we have invested in the process of cleaning, as even with the challenge of the muddiest rugby kits, their AEG washing machine ensures that each week the players go on to the pitch looking pristine!”

AEG’s support for grassroots sports in the UK began in early 2011, with a campaign that saw hundreds of junior rugby teams apply for Kit and Laundry packages. Since then, more than 1000 kits have been supplied to grassroots teams and last year’s winners had the chance to train with the England rugby team at Penny Hill Park and others trained with England rugby legends at their own clubs.
