Every Cloud: Perspective is everything by Greg Sumner

The book begins on the day I woke up after being unconscious for four months. It would be quite some time before I fully understood what had happened, and just how life-changing my injuries were.

On October 8th, 2012, I was the passenger in one of the cars involved in a high-speed head on collision. The paramedics managed to find a very faint pulse and maintain it throughout the rescue. I was then rushed up to hospital in Bristol. During the 16week long coma, my heart stopped completely more than once.

My life was put on hold for 8 long, hard, gruelling years, for the most physically, mentally and emotionally, taxing time imaginable, as I endured physical and mental rehabilitation.

Greg, before the crash, was angry at life. My extensive criminal record reflects this, I was an angry, reckless young man who chose to go down the wrong path.

The overriding message I want to convey is that we all have choices in life, and those choices are always ours to make. As the saying goes, “It’s not the cards you are dealt, it’s what you do with them.” I regret the crash that destroyed the lives of the two other families involved – something that will weigh heavy on my conscience for the rest of my life, but I don’t regret the person I’ve become. The “new Greg” is living proof that you get out of life what you put in.
