Best Rugby Matches of All Time

Rugby tends to be a tense affair at the best of times, but what happens when two teams are evenly matched and refuse to give an inch? Well, we probably get to see one of the best games of rugby played. These types of games tend to bring the best out of players, and no one wants to lose. Be it the Six Nation or The World Cup, these occasions are packed with the world’s best player and you know they are going to put on the show and turn on the style. Here are some of the best rugby matches of all time.

France 30 – 24 Australia

When these two sides met in the Semi-Final of the very first Rugby World Cup, they produced the standout game of what had been an unremarkable tournament up to that stage. Australia had come into the competition as one of the favorites to win the World Cup and was in hot form. France was nothing special, but for this game, they decided to turn it on. The Aussies had nearly won it when Serge Blanco popped up with a sweeping try to win the game for France and see them to the final.

England 20 – 17 Australia

As World Cup Finals go this was one of the more memorable. Although the game did not produce the best rugby it was a completely absorbing game from start to finish. The game ebbed and flowed between the two sides and it was not until the end of the first half that there was daylight between the two sides. But the second half was even tenser until extra time when Jonny Wilkinson grabbed the winning points with a last grasp dropkick.

Ireland 40 – 29 New Zealand

Ireland had never beaten The All Blacks until they met in November 2016. Ireland held out to a New Zealand bombardment in the second half to clinch the game. As the All Blacks piled forward, Ireland’s Simon Zebo broke forward and scored a try in the corner to increase Ireland’s advantage. The Irish held firm in defense and panic began to creep into the All Blacks. The game was finished when Rob Henshaw scored another try for Ireland giving them their historic win.

Wales 31 – 24 Scotland

Known as the greatest comeback in Six Nations history. With 3 minutes to go, Scotland had been in control and was 10 points up. This would have been the first time they would have had an away win in four years. On top of this. They had not won in Cardiff for eight years. When Phil Godman was sent to the bin then it got crazy… Wales scored three tries and a penalty in those three minutes to win the game. Scotland also had another man sent off on those chaotic 3 mins.
