A new look 3xv struggled to contain a strong Grosvenor side after being reduced to 13 men at half time.

A rusty but strong 3xv took the field against groveners 1/2xv on a mixed weather day at deramore! The well drilled grovesner side with two preseason games under their belt opened the scoring from a penalty in front of the posts because of a tackle from Mark Scott which the referee deemed too good! Grovesner had the better of the opening 25 minutes as the only players on their game where the 3 new comers who were the shining light in an otherwise quiet first half for Quins! the only scoring opportunity came from a speculative drop goal attempt from cabbage the best part of 45 metres which was edged wide by the breeze! Quins took the field in the second half with 13 men, after a huge covering tackle by cabbage ended with an broken wrist and Mark Scott twisting his knee at a breakdown which was dominated in the opening 40 by him and his partner in crime mckee!

The second 40 was surprisingly well contested by the 13 men of Quins with the forwards getting much more continuity and anto the local all black really getting things moving at pace resulted in Ollie McDonald scoring in the right hand corner from a deft chip by a.Gribben, McDonald converting his own try from the touchline!

As the half wore on however Quins started to blow and the tireless work from pete Scott marko and snowden from minute one began to take it’s toll with grovesner stealing two breakaway tries near the death!

After the final whistle there was a sombre mood in the changing room as the team were disappointed to loose what will most certainly be there most difficult fixture this year!

However some solace can be taken from what was a new back row of johnny Carey, kenny from Connacht and Storey which produced a serious combination, with messrs thompson McCormick and Mcritchie all waiting in the wings this will be a seriously strong area for the mighty 3s with the inclusion of new boy Ritchie standing at 6,4 ther is the makings of a lineout jumper of real merit to replace the aerially challenged Jodie wiley! Let’s just hope the powers from above don’t poach some of the fresh talent from the Wayne Storey 1xv select!
