Mighty 4s do double by winning League and Cup.
The 4XV game against Armoy has been conceded by our opponents. League has been won by 2 clear points. Well done guys.
We welcomed Old Wesley to our home ground on a thoroughly wet and windy evening (Friday 3rd May). The rain at one stage was so heavy and the wind so strong that the flags would not stand up at any of their points. To add to this spectacle Wesley, being on Tour, came out in a strip that would have befitted the G.B. Rugby League Team !
The Match was a most entertaining affair with the bigger Wesley Team grinding away in the scrums and making the best of their advantage in the lineout. The monsoon like conditions did not enable running rugby but the spectacle was enjoyed by a not numerically inconsiderable crowd who supported both teams enthusiastically. A big ‘Thank You’ to all of them.
Falling behind by two tries at one stage, we still never gave up. In fact, Darragh McGuigan replied with the best try of the evening. A scintillating solo run from the half way line, finished in style with a grand dive in the water, under the posts. Peter Gibbons followed this with a well supported forwards try, when he crashed over the line. The final score was 10 v 25, which was excellent considering Wesley had a number of Leinster Development Players on their Team.
Joe Toner went off early in the second period with a nasty eye injury. It was picked up in an accident with one of our own in a ruck. Good news is Joe has suffered nothing serious and sports a great shiner which he wears like a war medal !
Following the Game we had a short presentation (Players Awards). Trophies went to :-
Josh Barr (Captain and player who led by example)
Kevin McMahon ( Most improved forward)
Hugo Strutt (Most improved back)
Darragh Mc Guigan (Player of the Season)
A very enjoyable night followed, with our visitors in the Club. They appreciated the hospitality shown and will carry the good name of the Club down to Dublin 4. I would like to thank the Committee for agreeing to the victuals and Bernie (& staff) for supplying them.
See you all at start of September !
