Making six changes to the side that defeated Queens last week the “Devels” travelled the short distance to Shaw’s Bridge to play Instonians 2’s in the Conference League.
The Quins side was clinical in its play and came away with a 30 – 8 win over their neighbours.
This was a good finish to the end of 2012 where the young Quins side have seen themselves improving their performances and rotating the squad to good use. The start of the season had its problems with the first 3 games seeing the side playing with 12 men due to injuries during the matches, but only conceding 8 pints of a difference in total in these games.
As the season progressed they. like all Division One Senior 2nd XV sides, had to struggle with the “knock on” effect of Ulster Call ups and Club injuries but stayed competitive enabling them to develop as a side which has seen a vast improvement on previous seasons and winning their last three matches in December. This hopefully will strenghten them as the Six Nations and Irish Under 20’s start along with Ulster and Ravens fixtures obviously having the knock on affect to the side.
The “Devels” have a bye next Saturday in the McCrea Cup so their next game is a home fixture against Ards 2s in the Conference League on January 12th and away the following Friday night to Banbridge in the Ulster Senior 2nd XV league
