League action continues in Qualifying Three and Four this weekend. In Three the contest is down to Holywood and Larne battling it out for that all important top place. In Four Ophir remain clear favourites with nine wins out of nine.

Qualifying Three

Letterkenny v Holywood

For the Donegal side their promising league start has petered out as they slumped to their sixth consecutive league defeat at Newry 28 -12 before Xmas. The task this weekend will be no easier as they welcome the undefeated league leaders Holywood, who remain undefeated after seven matches. They have scored 305 points and conceded 95pts. When the two sides met at Kerr Park in October the North Down proved too strong in winning 54 – 0. Letterkenny last won a league game at home to the PSNI in November. Holywood to win

Newry v PSNI

The South Down side have demonstrated the potential that is developing within their playing squad this season. With four wins from eight including narrow defeats to Larne , Holywood and Donegal the future looks very hopeful at Telford Park. PSNI have only recorded one league win this season with a 24 – 11 win over Newry in September. They are sitting bottom of the league and suffered a humilating 85 – 0 loss at Belfast Harlequins in the McCrea Cup last Saturday. Newry to win

Qualifying Four

BHSFP v Armoy

In the first fixture between the two sides BHSFP won 36 – 6 at Lime Park in November. The Greenisland side sit in fifth place with four wins from eight. Armoy continue to struggle as they were overwhelmed 75 – 0 by league leaders Ophir last Sat. They did record an impressive home win over Civil Service but have been unable to build on this performance as they remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the table. BHSFP’s to win

Civil Service v Virginia

December proved a difficult month for the Stormont side as they suffered three consecutive league defeats. Interesting clash between two teams placed third and fourth in the league. When the two sides met in November Virginia won 11 – 3. The omens are not good for Virginia as they have lost their last three away league games. At one stage they were considered serious contenders to challenge Ophir. Difficult game to call. Service coach Roy Lawton will be hoping his side can start the new year off with a win.

Ophir v Cavan
