JL3 Champions!
The season produced another dramatic twist as the recent result at Queens was overturned by the Branch, promoting Bangor to league winners.
Having already secured promotion to Junior League 2, to end up as league winners was the icing on the cake!
Despite a slow start to the season, the 2nds started to gel and the sense of teamwork and common purpose quickly became evident. The ‘never say die’ attitude of the coaches, Derry and Brissy, was reflected in the attitude and performance of the players. Although there were games where the team was reduced to 13 men through injuries, when there was a level playing field, Bangor showed their worth, racking up large scores against worthy opponents.
That decisive but contentious game at Queens, followed by Rainey’s failure to field a team for the last fixture of the season threatened to put a dampener on the celebrations. However, thanks in no small part to Norman Gault and the management’s pursuit of fair play, the Branch have acted accordingly and the 2nds can now, justifiably, call themselves champions!
However, this turn of events has produced one more challenge – the Harden Cup, contested by the winners of each of the 6 Junior Leagues. Our good fortune continues, as we have avoided the preliminary round, and enter the competition as semi-finalists on Saturday 4th May. Details of our opponents and the match venue have not been confirmed yet, but will follow as soon as this information becomes available.
