On the 26th February, Conleth McCambridge will embark upon a four month mission to India with the Hope Foundation where he will work with children in the slums of Calcutta to teach them video and photography skills as well as pass on some of his rugby knowledge.

Conleth said, “I’ve just finished a HND in Video and Photography and will be going out to Kolkata (Calcutta) for 3 to 4 months with The Hope Foundation as a volunteer to help with some of the schemes that they have running.”

“My main area of work will be teaching children from the slums and streets how to use cameras both photography and video, and the use of computers for a variety of tasks. This will benefit them in their education and help lift their self-esteem and hopefully help them to a better future.”

“Due to my rugby background with Banbridge RFC and Ulster Regional Development Squad I will also help with the Hope Foundations sporting activities, introducing rugby to many who have never played before.”

“In order for me to go to Kolkata to do this, I need to raise money for the charity. I hope you will help me do this by sponsoring/donating to the charity through me.”

The Hope Foundation, set up in 1999 to raise funds for one girls’ home, now works with 16 Indian NGO partners to rescue thousands of children from the streets and slums of Kolkata (Calcutta) in India, improve their quality of life, and give them a better future. Today, The Hope Foundation funds 64 projects including education; primary healthcare; shelter; vocational training; child protection; and drugs rehabilitation; and has reached out to over 22,000 children through education alone and hundreds of thousands more through primary healthcare, in partnership with Irish Aid.
