Preparations are in full swing for Ballyshannon Rugby Club’s Tag Tournament scheduled for Saturday August 11th at the Lakeside Centre. In what should be the biggest tournament ever held at the Lakeside, event coordinators Linda Loughlin and David Hoey are putting in a trojan effort to ensure a great days crack is in store. Tag rugby has become a hugely popular sport all over the country and is open to everyone over the age of 16 and with no experience required it is a great way to become involved at your local rugby club.

So far along with the local teams there has been great interest from outside the area with three teams from Sligo already registered and it is also hoped teams from Finn Valley RFC, Letterkenny RFC, Tir Chonaill RFC and Inishowen RFC will be in attendance, Linda and David are pulling out all the stops also in regards post match entertainment as the prize giving event will be a major part of the days entertainment.Teams are made up of ten players with a minimum of three females per team and entry fee is 100 euro with local teams hoping to seek sponsorship from local businesses. Anybody looking for further information or would like to register a team should contact 087 1121192.
In other club news senior men training is back in full swing since July 17th every Tuesday and Thursday at the Lakeside at 7pm sharp. This year big second row Anthony Coughlin has taken over as captain and Ray Gallagher has taken over as team coach and with the club returning to the minor league after a couple of very difficult seasons it will be hoping for a very positive year ahead and with a panel of eighteen players been used on a match day it is hoped to encourage as many new and young players to take part as part of a rebuilding process that will hopefully see the club reap the rewards in the seasons to come. All newcomers regardless of experience are more than welcome to join us at training.
Finally, there is one week left next week of the Rugby club/Soccer Club joint summer camp at the Lakeside which has been a great success so far!
