Letterkenny received the ball from kick off and were put under pressure from the home side who were determined to win it back. With big tackles and good defence the home side soon turned the ball over and was used well when winger Danika Doherty chipped the ball over the Letterkenny girls head and gave a good chase to score the first try of the game in the corner. Doherty also took the conversion but missed out by a margin. Play continued with some great passes and rucks from both sides, but Ballyshannon were the more determined team in this half and it showed when Captain Michelle Bowring ripped the ball from her opponents arms and pumped her way over the try line for Shannons 2nd try. Again the conversion was missed. Ballyshannon aware they were ahead never let their guard down and just before half time whistle Player of the Match Mairead Carty, carrying an injury, powered through Letterkennys defence to score Shannons 3rd try. Half time finished 15-0 to Ballyshannon.
2nd half seen Ballyshannon receiving the ball but Letterkenny were determined to prove themselves. With a few errors from the home side resulted in Letterkenny’s winger power down the side line to score their first try of the day. Letterkenny were not going to give up without a fight. Ballyshannon however were put under some pressure from the Letterkenny Girls but kept them out of their try line for most of the second half until the last few minutes of the game. A Ballyshannon ball which was fed from a ruck to the backs was lost and Letterkeny retrieved it to score their second try. Ballyshannon narrowly won 15-10 at final whistle. The Ballyshannon Ladies may have come out with a win but will be determined to rectify any errors at training during the week and will improve on were they went wrong.
Ladies training is ever Wednesday and Friday at the Lakeside Centre Ballyshannon all new players welcomed so come along and give it a try.
