On a rare calm day at Ballymacarn Park the 6’s took to the Golan Heights to take on Dee III. With both youth and experience on their side Hinch won the toss and opted to kick.
A good kick from fly half Bishop gave his forwards time to chase and get under the ball with Bulk, Bear and Hughies leading the charge. Dee took the ball into contact, recycled well and cleared their lines.
Fanta found Napier at the front of the lineout who brought the ball down and a driving maul was formed. With the Horse at the back controlling the play he broke off and was well supported by Samuels and Carlisle. Stopped just short of the line with the ball available for Orr he passed to Bishop and the move continued with a missed ball to Wilson who went over beside the posts for the first score of the game.
From the re-start Hinch gathered the ball well and moved up the pitch at speed with the backs receiving good ball. Keatley used his Samoan side step to great effect and set up Carson for the second try of the day.
Hinch now with their tails well up again took the restart well with Hughies making good ground up the pitch. The ball was laid for Samuels to pick up and crash over the third try of the afternoon.
Next to go on the rampage was Bulk he held onto the ball well as the Dee defence removed his shirt this did not deter the big man, he made the ball available to the backs Bishop fed Wilson who in turn missed a man to hit Shaw on the wing, who rounded his man on the outside to score in the corner.
Ill discipline from the Hinch forwards allowed Dee a penalty which was successfully converted.
Good work from Nappy and Fanta saw Horse barge his way over the line for the fifth try of the afternoon. Bishop added to the score sheet just prior to half time.
Half Time 32 -3
The second half continued as the first finished with good work from the forwards and Elwood on the wing to set up Samuels second try of the day.
With Hinch forwards dominating the game Horse broke from the back of the maul and unselfishly fed the ball to Orr so he could add his name to the ever growing score sheet.
Dee didn’t let their heads go down, Hinch were camped on their line but they managed to turn the ball over and clear their lines. However the ball only reached Shaw on the half way line. He was eventually stopped just short of the line; the ball was quickly recycled to Orr who went over for his second try of the afternoon.
The final try of the game followed good work from Keatley who rounded his man and passed to J Barr who crossed the line in the corner.
The referee decided to end the misery of Dee early. A great day on the try front but there is room for improvement when it comes to conversions.
