JNR Cup Final REport – Ballyclare 7 Ballynahinch 2’s 17

Captain Josh Donaldson scored a brace of tries to help Ballynahinch 2nds as they beat Ballyclare 17-7 in Tuesday evening’s Millar McCall Wylie Junior Cup Final.
Outhalf Davy Harris, who had a hand in both tries, kicked seven points for the County Down outfit as they sealed the win.
In the opening exchanges Hinch looked the more composed and they were rewarded when Donaldson touched down to the left of the posts after seven minutes. Hinch had kicked a penalty into the left hand corner where Andy Simpson secured the ball from touch. Jordan McMullan broke off the side of the maul and was stopped just short of the line. Peter Weir fired the quick ball wide where Davy Harris provided the scoring pass to Josh Donaldson on the charge and the Hinch skipper smashed he way over for the opening try. Ballynahinch 2s 37 – Malone 2s 8

The 2nd XV that took the field on Saturday showed 9 changes from the side that won the Junior Cup on Tuesday evening and they knew it would be a tough encounter against a Malone side that were only two points behind them in the league. Malone started the stronger and when Hinch failed to get out of their 22, the Malone pack recycled the ball a number of times before their second row forced his way over the line, the conversion was unsuccessful.
Hinch, playing into the elements responded positively, they forced a penalty at a scrum and Irvine went for the corner leading to a 5m lineout. In poor conditions Harper found Simpson in the lineout and the pack mauled over the line for Conor Piper to emerge with the ball and the touchdown, Harris was just wide with the conversion but the scores were tied…….. for the full story CLICK HERE
