Ballynahinch responded in perfect fashion after last weekend’s first defeat in the Ulster Bank League when they went down at home to UCD. This weekend they made no mistake running in 10 tries against fellow Ulster side Ballymena.
The Ballymacarn pitch was still very soft but it was in much better shape than in the previous week. Playing away from the clubhouse the home side made a good start pressing Ballymena deep into their half of the field.
After two early penalty misses by Michael Lawton the Hinch opened their account in the 15th minute when out half Harry McAleese cut through a gap and made good ground into the visitors 22. Quick ball was taken on by Michael Graham then moved wide with Aaron Ferris coming across from his wing to beat fullback Martin Irwin then twist and cross for an unconverted try.
Three minutes later another break by McAleese started an attack, then he gave a neat inside ball to Blane McIlroy who had to Michael Graham and James Simpson on hand to take play forward with Lawton running round to finish off and touch down underneath the posts. Lawton added the extras to take Hinch 12 points clear. CLICK HERE for the full story
