Ballymena Rugby V v Carrick Rugby IV:

Something altogether joyful to watch is a good closed team teach an opposition of mostly youngsters how its done. Nearly every team that play “The Black Knights” of Ballymena find themselves on the receiving end of a lesson on brute force combined with skill, a keen eye for a good line, the sheer joy of a well executed maul, and a nippy winger or two. Maybe its because alot of these guys are very good rugby players.

When two such teams meet as say for example in the McCambley Cup final, on Ravenhills hallowed turf, the spectacle of grass roots rugby is played on the big stage, we will be there this season to capture the final.

While covering an U19s game at Carrick we where fortunate enough to find “The Black Knights” taking on Carrick IVs. Below you will find 79 pictures of The Knights in action, a clip of a try scoring maul and an interview with their commander Peter Crabbe, a long servant of Ballymena Rugby Club. Looking forward to following their rugby crusade as the season developes.
