Right from the start Ballymena looked the more enterprising team, but were finding the going hard enough against a strong wind in the first half. A series of penalties gave Rainey six points, but a great try by Paddy James brought the score to 6-5. A breakaway try from a Ballymena mistake cost them sven points, but a driving maul and a great conversion by Rory Drysdale brought them to within one point at the break. In the second half Rainey scarcely got out of their twenty two, and spent a lot of time defending the goal line, with limited success. A powerful Ballymena scrum underlined their total dominance and paved the way for another four tries, two by Adrian Hamilton.
