A series of errors allowed Rainey in for the opening try of the match, but not long after a break out of defence by Drysdale led to a lineout near the Rainey line and Ballymena duly drove over to equalise. Drysdale converted to make the score 7-5,and that’s how it stayed until half time. A fine individual try by the same player, not converted, was followed by another break from the out half; he found Small in support, who ran infor the try.Neither try was converted, but at this stage Ballymena were playing more controlled rugby and they rounded of a good movement with another Small try, this time converted by Drysdale. This put them 24-5 ahead. A late resurgence by Rainey saw them score a good try through Kieran Donaghy, converted by Mark O’Coonor. Final score Ballymena 24 Rainey 12
