McKINSTRY TRY GIVES CLARE WIN IN KEY GAME
Ballyclare Rugby Club 1st XV moved well clear at the top of Qualifying 2 with a significant 21-16 win over probably the closest league challengers Omagh at the Cloughan on Saturday. Clare coach Bob Young again had to make changes following injuries bringing in a new centre partnership and introducing two of last year`s Ballyclare High strong 1st XV namely Matt Dailly and Michael Kirk into the pack. On the day Omagh knew this was a must win affair and put a lot into it especially up front but the home backs always looked more threatening with ball in hand. Inside the final quarter a move started by the backs was finished b y lock Graeme McKinstry going in on the right for what was the winning score.Ballyclare remain unbeaten in the league now 11 points ahead of Academy and 12 points ahead of Omagh. If the team can recover from the build up of injuries and win the games v Randalstown and Academy next month they could be hard to shift from the top of the table. On Saturday Logan was injured but bravely carried on and it might be tough to play in this Saturday`s Junior Cup semi final at Coleraine.
