Following a recent committee meeting which was called to decide the playing strategy for next year, along with preparations for promotion to the qualifying leagues it was also decided the club would try and form a ladies side.
After 2 consecutive league successes, the club has decided that the 2012 / 13 season will be one of development both on and off the field.
The doors have been opened to new players to strengthen the 1st XV and start a 2nd XV, plus the club is also hoping to welcome ladies to the Lime Park playing fields with the formation of their own team as well.
Tom Christie, president for the club said:
“We’ve seen the success that the Ballymoney ladies have had and we also recognise that women’s rugby is a popular and growing sport. It’s something that we decided we would like to get involved in as well as part of development of our club.
If we can get the players, we’re committed to getting the coaches and the infrastructure in place for the ladies and the committee will actively support them in the season as well.
We want to make Armoy a team for all so we’re hoping that the interest will be there.”
Any ladies (or men) interested in joining a club that focuses on being competitive without losing any of the fun side of the sport should contact armoyrfc_secretary@yahoo.co.uk or join the club on Facebook at facebook.com/armoy.rugbyclub to find out more.
Further plans for the future:
As well as the doors being opened to new players, the club would like to open its newly re-furbished rooms to the local community as well.
Available with a bar if required, the clubhouse had two rooms which are perfect for meetings, parties or any occasion you have planned both big and small at very competitive rates.
Contacting the club to find out more is again via armoyrfc_secretary@yahoo.co.uk or facebook.com/armoy.rugbyclub.
The club would also like players to note there is a pre-season works party taking place at 7pm on Thursday 31st May to start preparations on the stand and pitches for the next season.
All players available would be warmly welcomed and refreshments will be provided.
