Armoy maintain good start with impressive away victory
It didn’t take the Armoy men long to settle into their new environment at the Rainey. Despite the home team taking the lead by kicking an early penalty, the Armoy boys were ready to show off their strength and skills to a full strength Rainey team. Throughout the afternoon the call from all players were ‘gimme the ball’ and once they got the ball they battered through a strong Rainey defence.
The first score came from a defensive scrum where the ball shot out the back and was pounced on by flanker, Gareth Christie. Stevie Bartlett also scored a brace of tries in the first half by steaming through tackle after tackle. Being inspired by some great kicking displays in the World Cup, Craig Nesbitt rarely missed a kick all afternoon he converted all but 2 kicks at goal.
The second half Armoy continued to dominate by scoring another 6 trys. Big Stevie got his third to make it a hat trick. John Cassley powered over for a score and not to be outdone by the forwards, the backs also showed some great displays of speed and skill with Richard Bartlett going across the line for a second hatrick of scores. The final try was scored by Alan Bartlett to make it a final score of 59-6.
