Armagh rugby’s second’s fifteen have been nominate as club team of the
2010-11 season. The young side won the coveted Crawford cup when they
defeated a very strong Coleraine second’s side 29-10 in the cup final played
at Ravenhill on 26th April. They went on to win the Magner’s Junior League
with the both the best defensive and best attacking figures in the league.
Throughout the season, the team coach, Gary Morton, engendered a
unique team atmosphere. He was seen to extract team performances, which
would have challenged any club first fifteen in Ulster.
With the senior side venturing into senior rugby for the first time since
1997 the second’s team role within the club has now become ever more
important. The team will be seen to take on an integral role where young
players will be encouraged to emulate the senior team. The team’s role
becomes ever more important when the first fifteen side now having to carry
not only the regular fifteen players but also five substitutes. To keep this
supply regular the club has been required to recruit new talent from a
variety of sources.
A full detailed list of new recruits will be issued prior to the start of
the new season.
