Saturday’s league fixture with Clogher Valley @ The Palace Grounds was postponed due to the death of a prominent Clogher Valley sponsor. This fixture will be added to the long list of rescheduled games to be played later in the season.
Originally the Armagh club had three games arranged to be played at the home venue. The first, second & third fifteens all in action. When the news of the postponement filtered through the ranks in the club the combined Armagh/Monaghan under 19’s jumped at the opportunity of a fixture with a city of Derry side. Once again all three pitches were in action.
The pre-match dinner reception had already been arranged and the match sponsor,Sam McNiece, had arranged to entertain a collection of guests. so not to be outdone the occasion was hastily rearranged for the second’s league game with Ballynahinch 3rd’s. The guests at the reception were groups of special care nurses from Newry Hospice & the Mandeville Centre in Craigavon.
After the final whistle a cheque was presented to the nurses for use in the running of the hospice facility.
The second’s won their game 39-5. The third’s won their game against Malone fifth’s 40-5 and the under 19’s won their match 19-8.
The first’s face a real test on Wednesday evening when they travel to Shaw’s Bridge to play Cooke in a crucial league game. Kick-off is at 7-30 and a large crowd is anticipated for what will be a clinker of a game.
