Ards U15 squad departed Ulster’s fair shores on a mid morning sailing full of anticipation of an excellent tour and sadly absent of coach Ricky Sadler, who was unable to join due to work commitments, although rumours were circulating that it was an attempt to avoid Court proceedings.

After a high spirited ferry and coach journey, the party arrived at the sedate Sundrum Castle holiday park outside Ayr just after 4pm and after a brief sojourn, decanted themselves to Cumnock RFC for their match.

Although keen opponents for the first 15 minutes, Cumnock were soon outclassed with the entire Ards team playing a totally open game with 7 well executed tries giving them a 47-5 victory.
Cumnock’s hospitality was of the highest order with club memorabilia exchanged. Paddy Clarke was named Man of the Match and the inaugural Ards v Cumnock Perpetual Trophy was presented to Captain Joel DePledge.
Tour Court was then convened and a series of shoddy and unsubstantiated charges were brought against coach Alan McHugh. Despite his obvious innocence, he was found guilty as charged and presented with an interestingly decorated t-shirt for constant wear.

Returning to their accomodations, the tour party were still full of energy, but did eventually settle down. The coaching team did check in with absent coach Sadler at about 3am to sing him a song and let him know the tour party were settled for the night.

Next game at Irvine RFC 3rd of April.
