Message to Ards RFC from Caleb Powell, President, IRFU, 2010-11
I am delighted as President of the Irish Rugby Football Union to extend my best wishes to Ards RFC.
I wish all players and members of the club every enjoyment and success from the season and I send special greetings to club President, Reggie Haddock and club captain, Stewart Paul.
The Ards club is a stronghold of rugby in North County Down and performs a very valuable service to the game through its active adult, youth and mini sections.
In what is another very busy season for Irish Rugby as we count down to Rugby World Cup 2011, the domestic scene also holds additional appeal in this the 21st staging of the All Ireland league.
A further incentive is that this season’s competition will determine the make up of the new look format being introduced in 2011 – ’12 when the number of senior clubs increases by four to 52, playing in a two-section Division 1 of 10 teams each and a two-section Division 2 of 16 teams.
I wish the Ards club every success in your endeavors and assure you that on-going it is the priority of the Union and its Provincial Branches to ensure the well being of club rugby on this Island.
