Since September primary schools through out Fermanagh have been receiving tag rugby coaching. As a result of this local Community Rugby Officer Rob Watson organised a, primary 5 class tag rugby blitz, for all the primary schools who took part in the coaching before Haloween. The blitz day was the chance for the children to play other schools and practice all the skills learned over the weeks of coaching but most importantly to have fun and enjoy rugby. The blitz was very well attended with 8 primary schools bringing 2 teams (1 boys team and 1 girls team) and a couple of schools bringing 3 teams, almost 200 children taking part in total. The Blitz was split into four groups, 2 boys groups and 2 girls groups and each team played each other once (3 ten minute matches). As with all blitz days the matches started a bit nervously but by the final whistle of the day everyone was showing off their rugby skills.

For parents out there who have not heard of tag rugby it is a modified game of rugby where there is no contact and everyone can join in and practice their skills i.e. running, passing, catching, evasion, fitness etc and not being worried about getting tackled.

As with all primary school blitz days it was a non-competitive day and more about the fun and enjoyment of playing rugby. Not forgetting the teachers I think they enjoyed the mince pies:)
Rob would like to thank all the schools for taking part in the coaching and for attending the first blitz and also to wish them a Happy Christmas and Happy New Year.
