Magners League: Brian McLaughlin has named a 29 man squad for Friday’s crucial match against the Cardiff Blues at Ravenhill on Friday (KO 19.05).

Andrew Trimble, Paddy Wallace and Tom Court all return to the Ireland 6 Nations squad ahead of their showdown with Scotland.

Ian Humphreys is named despite his late withdrawal from the Scarlets match due to a shoulder injury. Patrick Jackson, who made an impressive debut at out-half in Humphreys’ absence, has been released to re-join the Ireland U-20 squad.

Darren Cave returns to the squad for the first time since November after recovering from a hamstring injury. Prop Alan Whitten earns a recall to the squad but there is no place for fullback David McIlwaine.

Friday’s last gasp win over the Scarlets was a huge boost to Ulster and they now sit 5 points off the Magners League play-offs with a game in hand. A victory over play-off rivals Cardiff would be another step in the right direction.
