2s leave it late to progress
Saturday saw the first game in the Crawford Cup, with Ballymoney 2s travelling to Belfast to take on Academy 2s. In a team showing a few changes already from the last run out, a late call-off from David McKeeman gave Gareth McCrea a start in the 7 jersey, a move which only added to the amount of dodgy facial hair on display for the end of Movember.With the 4 mile hike to the pitch to warm up, Ballymoney should have had the cobwebs well and truly blown off by the time kick off came around. But it was a lacklustre opening spell for the visitors, and Academy were contesting well at the breakdown and not allowing the Toon any sustained possession.
But the forwards worked their way into the game, a few hits and some more commitment to the ruck eventually paying off.
