A disciplined, focused performance saw Banbridge pick up the second win of their All-Ireland League campaign on Saturday at Rifle Park.

Barnhall had started the day in second place in Division 2A but there was no question mark over the home side’s right to the four points after a display that coach Daniel Soper said was very satisfying. “I’m very pleased for the guys,” he said afterwards. “They’ve had a tough few weeks, coming out on the wrong side of very close games.

“They defended exceptionally well, especially in the first half when Barnhall had us under a lot of pressure. But we only conceded three penalties in those first 40 minutes and two of those were in attacking positions so that was pretty pleasing.”

Bann were certainly on the rack in the opening 10 minutes when Barnhall set up shop in home territory. But a cast-iron defence kept the line intact and that discipline to which Soper referred ensured that Bann lifted the siege with the opposition still pointless.

A loose Barnhall pass gave Adam Ervine, Stephen Irvine and John Porter the chance to take play into the opposition half where Bann were able to test the Barnhall defence. Porter almost breached the defence before Adam Doherty just failed to hold what would have been a try-scoring pass……….. see more at :- http://www.banbridgerfc.com/match/167/
