Great day at Armed Forces Day 7s
Ards rugby club supported the Armed Forces Day Touch 7s rugby competition held at Ards airfield last Saturday by entering ‘The Stove Yardies’ and ‘The FBI’
These teams were a mix of both youth (Max Gribben, Ethan Dodge, Josh Scholfeld, Daniel Patton) and senior players (Neil Beggs, Gareth Wilson, Nathan Barnett, Chris Webster, Pete Croan, Chris Allen, Gareth Paden, Chris Beacom, Adam Coulter, Jack Coulter, Colin McClure, John Dowey).
In total 8 teams entered the competition, including Donaghadee RFC, 2RIR, 1st Scots, Army Air Corp, Queens Own Yeomanry and Army Transport Corp; the competition was played in great spirit and the much awaited Ards v Donaghadee game ended with honours even at 4 tries each.
2RIR and the Army Air Corp contested the 3rd/4th play off with the Army Air Corp winning.
The final was contested by Ards (FBI) and 1st Scots, 1st Scots ran out 5-3 winners.
This was a great day out for all those involved, the camaraderie and craic with the other teams was superb….Ards even allowed Neil Armstrong to guest for Donaghadee and Gareth Wilson to sign up to the Transport Corp!!
