Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 26th November 2022.
On Tuesday 22nd November Lurgan College and Wellington College played their previously postponed Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield Round 1 game.
The game turned out to be a nine try thriller with the Lurgan College team emerging as 29-24 winners at the no-side whistle.
The Lurgan College team will now travel to play Ballyclare Secondary School in the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield.
On Wednesday 23rd November Grosvenor Grammar School and Lurgan College played their previously postponed Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup 1st Round game.
The Lurgan College 2ndxv won the game by 29-15.
The draw for the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup, as well as the draw for the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Trophy, took place. The results of these draws are as follows: –

In the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup Royal School, Armagh 4thxv hosted Royal Belfast Academical Institution 4thxv.
This Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup game finished with the Royal Belfast Academical Institution team recording a 52-17 win.
Also, on Wednesday 23rd November Enniskillen Royal Grammar School played Campbell College, Belfast in a 1stxv friendly game.
This high scoring encounter ended with the Campbell College, Belfast team recording a 36-19 victory.
Ben McLaren, James Morrison and James Trotter scored the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School tries with Tadhg Hambly adding two conversions.
Lukas Kenny put on a “Man of the Match” performance for the Campbell College team with a hat trick of tries. Flynn Longstaff continued with his successful return from injury with a try with Cal McKinney and Matthew Booth completing the list of Campbell College try scorers. Matthew Rea, was successful with three of his conversion kicks.
Meanwhile, Foyle and Londonderry College entertained their close rivals from Limavady Grammar School and won the North West Derby game by 31-14.
The Foyle College points all came in the first half. James McKillop touched down for two tries with Chris Boyd, Robbie Patterson and Cahir McKay touching down for one try apiece. Adam Killeen was successful with three of his conversion kicks.
Joe Caldwell and Robert McFarland scored the Limavady Grammar School tries with Benjamin Howe and James Laird adding the extras to both.
At the Magheralave Road venue in Lisburn Friends’ School played Bangor Grammar School in a game the Bangor Grammar School team won by 31-17.
The Friends’ School team scored three tries through Joel Barron, who touched down twice, and Ruari Doyle. Paddy Moore was successful with one of his conversion kicks.
Nathan Semple, with two, Josh Walker and Jack Mason scored the Bangor Grammar School tries. Luke Mingout added two conversions with Josh Walker adding a third.
On Friday 25th November Royal School, Dungannon played Coleraine Grammar School in a game that ended with the Coleraine Grammar Schol team recording a 52-12 victory.
Johnn Carroll scored a first half try for the RS Dungannon team with Jacob Clarke adding the conversion. The second Royal School, Dungannon try was scored early in the second half by Reuben Gibson when he touched down for an unconverted try.
The Coleraine Grammar School team scored eight tries in the course of the game. Zack McCartney, Max McCrabbe, who put on a “Man of the Match” performance, and Jacob Lennox each scored a brace of tries with Conor Draycott and Noah Gordon each touching down for one try. Jordan McAuley capped a fine personal performance with six successful conversion kicks.
Meanwhile, at Kirkham Grammar School in Lancashire the Ballymena Academy team was playing a tour game against the Kirkham Grammar School 1stxv.
The Kirkham Grammar School team won the game by 49-12.
The Ballymena Academy points came through tries from Tom McMaster and Callum Mustoe with one conversion from Sean McKay.
On Saturday 26th November Methodist College, Belfast 4thxv played Campbell College, Belfast 4thxv in the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup. The game was full of flowing rugby but so well organised were both defences that the final score read Methodist College, Belfast 4thxv 0 Campbell College, Belfast 4thxv 0.
The replay for this Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup game should take place on Wednesday 30th November.
Both teams, and their coaches, were delighted to have Mark Orr, now in his 39th season of refereeing Ulster Schools’ Cup competition matches, appointed as referee for this game. Mark was delighted with the reception he received at Pirrie Park.
At 1stxv level quite a few friendly games were scheduled to take place on Saturday 26th November.
Belfast High School played Larne Grammar School in 3×20 minutes training game. Both teams used extended panels of players with everyone involved getting plenty of pitch time. All the players involved, as well as their coaching staff, found the training games to be very useful.
Belfast Royal Academy hosted Regent House School and won the game by 55-5.
The Belfast Royal Academy team scored nine tries in the course of the game. Henry George touched down for a hat trick, Ryan O’Hara touched down for a brace while Scott Baxter, Matthew McQuiston, Ethan Pavlovic and Ollie Scott each touched down for one. Frank Davis was successful with five of his conversion kicks.
For the Regent House School team Zeki Kaya scored an unconverted consolation try.
Dalriada School played Ballyclare High School in a game the Ballyclare High School team won by 24-7.
The Dalriada School points came through a try from Alex Dickie which was converted by Gabriel Stubbs-Carton.
The Ballyclare High School team scored three tries through Tom McAllister, who touched down twice, and Joel Logan. Joel Flynn added the extras to all three tries as well as converting a penalty kick opportunity.
The scheduled Dromore High School against Cambridge House Grammar School game has been rescheduled for Wednesday 30th November.
Grosvenor Grammar School played Banbridge Academy in a game the Banbridge Academy team won by 17-0.
With Daniel Hutchinson organising the Banbridge Academy team from their midfield, the Banbridge Academy team ran in three tries in the course of the game. Connor Magee scored the first try, Jonny McCrum touched down for the second try with Ryan Hanna running in for the third try. Ryan Matthews was successful with one of his conversion kicks.
Lurgan College played a Royal Belfast Academical Institution “Select” Senior team and it was the Belfast Inst team that came away with a 45-0 victory.
Methodist College, Belfast played Wallace High School and, flowing a very positive display, recorded a 24-7 victory.
Ben McFarlane, Tyrese Abolarin, Rudy Jordan and Jamie Thompson scored the Methodist College tries. Ben McFarlane was successful with two of his conversion kicks.
The Wallace High School points came through a try from Jonny Hanna which was converted by Charlie Beattie.
The Methodist College team got a major bonus in the course of the game when their influential flanker, Josh Stevens, made a successful return to play following injury with an impressive display in the final quarter of the game.
Portadown College played Down High School in a game the Down High School team won by 47-5.
The Portadown College team scored a consolation unconverted try through Tyler Jackson
Ryan Connolly put on a “Man of the Match” performance with three tries for the Down High School team. Rhodri Phillips, Jonny Russell, Brett Kelly and Matthew Douglas each ran in for one Down High School try. Rhodri was successful also with six of his conversion kicks.
Rainey Endowed School played Omagh Academy and got back to winning ways with a 43-8 victory.
For The Rainey ES team Rossa Bell and Sean Bentley each scored two tries with Jack McCavana, James Cappell and Ewan McKay each scoring one try. Owen O’Kane was successful with four of his conversion kicks.
The Omagh Academy team scored an unconverted try through Conrad Hale with Andrew Johnston adding one successful penalty kick.
Royal School, Armagh played the Royal Belfast Academical Institution team in a close encounter at the well-prepared pitch at the College Hill venue.
The Royal Belfast Academical Institution team eventually squeezed through with a hard earned 21-14 victory.
The Royal School, Armagh points came through tries from Kristoffer Mackenzie and Cameron Dale. Josh Watterson was successful with both his conversion kicks.
The Royal Belfast Academical Institution team scored three tries through Josh Gibson, Frazer Cunningham and Daniel Moore. Josh Eagleson was successful with all three conversions.
