Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 8th October 2022

On Wednesday 5th October a number of the last of the Group Stage games in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ U16 Cup competition took place.
In Group A Wallace High School had a walkover against Royal Belfast Academical Institution and the Wallace High School U16 team has now finished on top of Group A.
Ballymena Academy played Belfast Royal Academy and recorded a 12-7 victory.
In Group B Royal School, Armagh hosted Methodist College, Belfast and won this Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ U16 Cup game by 31-12.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ U16 Plate competition Coleraine Grammar School conceded their game against Regent House School.
Rainey Endowed School played Ballyclare High School in their final Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ U16 Plate game. The Rainey Endowed School team recorded a 40-3 victory to ensure they win the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ U16 Plate.
At 1stxv level Larne Grammar School played Friends’ School, Lisburn in a game the Larne Grammar School team won by 8-7.
The Friends’ School team had built up a 7-0 lead by the interval with a try from Joel Barron which was converted by Paddy Moore.
The Larne Grammar School team responded strongly in the second half. A try, as well as a penalty goal from Ethan Duncan, secured the 8-7 win for the home team.
Limavady Grammar School played Strabane Academy in a 3 x 20minute training game which gave both coaches the opportunity to use extended squads.
For the Limavady Grammar School team players such as Benjamin Howe, Joe Caldwell, Matthew Armstrong, Robert McFarland, Cooper McCausland and Odhran Clenaghan impressed with their performances.
For the Strabane Academy team players such as Felix Foley, Josh Toland, Tom Logue, Reuben Darragh, Max Mealiff and Nathan Russell stood out with their performances.
On Friday 7th October Bangor Grammar School played Sullivan Upper School in an evening game at Upritchard Park, home of Bangor Rugby Football Club.
Sullivan Upper School won the game by 31-0. The Sullivan Upper team scored five tries with Rory Fulton touching down for two and Tony Muldrew, Harry Tindle and Harry McKeown each touching down for one try. Harry McKeown was successful also with three conversions.
Both teams would like to thank Bangor RFC for the provision of facilities and hosting the game.
On the same evening Cambridge House Grammar School played Antrim Grammar School at Eaton Park, home of Ballymena Rugby Football Club.
The Cambridge House Grammar School team won the game by 19-9.
Jacob Oliver scored two tries for the Cambridge House team with Paddy Roberts touching down for a third try. Dan Chestnutt was successful with two of his conversions.
The Antrim Grammar School points came through two successful penalty kicks from Alexander Lynn and one successful penalty kick from Matthew Adair.

Meanwhile at the Queen’s University Sports Arena at The Dub Wallace High School played Belfast Royal Academy in a game The Wallace High School team won by 24-0.
Quinn Armstrong, Ethan Patterson and Rio McDonagh scored the Wallace High School tries. Charlie Beattie capped a fine personal performance with three successful conversions as well as one penalty goal.

On Saturday 8th October a number of schools 1stxv friendly games took place as well as the one remaining Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ U16 Cup Group stage game.
Campbell College, Belfast played their one remaining Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ U16 Cup Group stage game against Sullivan Upper School.
The Campbell College, Belfast team won the game by 55-10 and secured their place in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ U16 Cup when they will play Wallace High School. This final will be played on Wednesday 19th October-Venue TBC.
At 1stxv level Ballyclare High School played Belfast High School and won the game by 50-17.
Tom McAllister was the hero of the day for the Ballyclare High School team with a hat trick of tries. Neal McCrea was not far behind with two tries and Finn Lutton, Jacob Scarlett and Adam Snoddy each scored one try. Joel Flynn was successful with five of his conversion kicks.
Belfast High School scored three tries through Adam Bennett, Finn McAllister and Joey Ashby. Daniel Bennett added the conversion to one of the tries.
Ballymena Academy played their annual Young Memorial Cup game against Methodist College, Belfast in a game which saw the Methodist College team retain the Young Memorial Cup with a 22-12 victory.
The young Ballymena Academy team will have seen the outcome of the game as a learning experience as it was their first defeat of the season. Tom Wylie and Callum Mustoe scored the Ballymena Academy tries with Tristan Ferguson adding one conversion.
Josh Stevens touched down for two Methodist College, Belfast tries with Lewis Doherty and David Armstrong each running in for one. Ben McFarlane added the extras to one of the Methody tries.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School hosted Rainey Endowed School in a game which the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School team won by 38-12.
Jake Woods and James Morrison each scored two tries for the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School team with James Trotter and James McLaren running in for one try apiece. Tadhg Hambly was successful with four of his conversions.
The Rainey Endowed School points came through tries from Rossa Bell and Sean Bentley with James Cappell adding one conversion.
Friends’ School, Lisburn entertained Grosvenor Grammar School and managed to get back to winning ways with a 33-0 victory.
Tries from Ethan Salt, Joel Barron and Ruari Doyle, in the first half, along with two, Paddy Moore conversions, saw the Friends’ School team into a 19-0 lead at the break.
The Friends’ School team scored two more tries in the second half through Samuel Dillon and Sam Netherton. Two further Paddy Moore conversions secured the 33-0 win for the Friends’ School, Lisburn team.
Lurgan College played their annual Gary Clarke Trophy game against Banbridge Academy at Lurgan Rugby Club.
The Banbridge Academy team won the game by 41-7 with Calum Marsden running in for the Lurgan College try which was converted by Thompson Owen. Sam Stevenson was another Lurgan College player who contributed a lot to the game.
Two tries from Connor Magee, who put in a Man of the Match performance, set the Banbridge Academy team up for their victory. Darragh Knox, Tom King, Daniel Hutchinson, Calum Little and Ryan Matthews were the other try scorers for the Banbridge Academy team. Ryan Matthews added the extras to two of the Banbridge Academy tries.
Both teams would like to thank Lurgan RFC for the use of facilities and hosting the game.
Omagh Academy played Royal School, Dungannon in a game which saw the Royal School, Dungannon team continue their positive run of recent results with a 26-12 victory.
The Omagh Academy team scored two tries through Ben Henry, wo took advantage of some silky skills from Joe Harper, and Isaac Rainey. Andrew Johnston added the conversion to one of the tries.
The Royal School, Dungannon team scored four tries with Christy Brace, Matthew Burrows, Cameron Cummings and Alfie Lewis each scoring one. Jacob Clarke added the extras to three of the tries.
Regent House School hosted Campbell College, Belfast in a game the Campbell College team won by 64-12.
The Regent House School team scored two tries through Ewan Baker and Reuben O’Rorke to which Zach Campbell added one conversion.
The Campbell College team scored ten tries with Lukas Kenny touching down for a hat trick, Sam Boomer and James McConnell each scoring a brace and Jay Davis, Joseph Jeffrey and Daniel Harkin each scoring one try. Harry Dyer added the extras to seven of the tries.
Royal Belfast Academical Institution played Coleraine Grammar School and won the game by 28-14.
Bryn Ward, Jacob Boyd, James Clark and Flynn Morrow scored the Royal Belfast Academical Institution tries and Matthew Sweetlove was successful with all four conversions.
Conor Draycott and Joel Madden scored the Coleraine Grammar School tries with Matthew Curry adding the extras to both.
